Oil spurting out of dipstick - help please!
Discussion
Was it the Crankcase breather filter that was cleaned ie the one on top of the engine between the air filter and injectors inside a black housing? PCV doesnt figure in any BMW abriviations so i presume its the crankcase breather
That normally cures the issue although as you have had alot of oil passing through the system i recomend the lower intercooler pipes are undone to allow the excess oil out and also take the inlet manifold off too and drain that out also.
You will get white smoke for some time after as it burns off of the CAT
Whilst the manifold is off I highly recomend the manifols swirl flaps are checked over for any defects, cracks etc.
And just have the turbo impelers checked for free play....should have about 1mm axial play.
Piston ring failure is pretty much unheard of on the M47tu tends to be brether, swirl flaps or turdo...If its a swirl flap you would have loud banging noises from the engine and a heavy misfire tho.

Yes it was the crankcase breather. Its stopped smoking now, though I am still getting slight fumes through the heating system?? I'm guessing that's just the aftereffect you've mentioned.
I will get the rest of the pipes and intake cleaned thanks (is the intake manifold hard to take off?) though don't think i'll check the turbo as I suspect it will be going in the next year or so, plus the dodge mechanic managed to snap the stud from the turbo to the cat/downpipe so i'm just waiting for it to go to fully sort it again.
Cheers for all the help and advise, my heart was sinking from the thought of having to shell out so much to fix it!
