Booked my F31 340i into Birds for a B3-40i conversion
Feedback on it will be interesting to hear ! to3m said:
Went to replace my car's winter wheels with its summer ones, but it looks like they're rusted tightly on.
I'd started with one of the rears. Finding it impossible to remove, I tightened the bolts just with my fingers, and lowered the car back down in the hope of breaking the seal. But, no. Not even so much as a creak.
I drove the car back and forth for a few metres a few times, hoping for a nice cracking noise or something, but... nothing. Lifted the car back up again, undid 4 bolts with my fingers, the 5th with a wrench (it had tightened itself just enough to require it) - wheel still as tightly stuck on as before
I suppose this does mean the wheels won't come off in normal use, probably no bad thing.
I bought some rust loosening spray from Halfords a couple of weeks ago, which (after a lot of spraying) did the trick for one wheel. The other 3 however remained tightly stuck. So, off work for a few days, today I paid £25 to have professionals do it. Left the car with them, came back after an hour, and: there it was, the opposite of how I'd left it. Normal wheels on the outside, winter wheels bagged up on the inside.I'd started with one of the rears. Easy when you've got a car lift, I expect! - just hit the wheels very hard with your long-handled mallet until they fall off, and probably only took them 10 minutes. Couldn't quite bring myself to fully put my back into it with the car resting just on a jack. Might also be easier when it's somebody else's car.
So today is out with the new and in with the old! Was sent sone pics last night and I’m pretty impressed with the level of detail going into the prep of the 130i I’ve bought. No need for me to start detailing it the minute I get home (which has pleased my other half no end).
Looks like it scrubs up pretty well for an old girl.

That does look really tidy for sure. Exciting times ahead! Looks like it scrubs up pretty well for an old girl.

Thanks Lee. I’m oddly excited about it despite it a downgrade on paper.JakeT said:

The Birds suspension was a big selling point and I’m looking forward to seeing how it feels. I’m trying not to expect too much despite what I’ve read about it. Court_S said:

That looks utterly fantastic I must say. Very keen to hear how you get on, a 130i with sorted suspension must be a lovely thing to punt around. Going by my 125i the standard set up is ok, just loses the plot a bit when it gets bumpy. A bit more control would be perfect. Looks like it scrubs up pretty well for an old girl.

Thanks bud. It’s home, utterly filthy which is a shame after Jason’s hard work to prep it well. He was pleased with my M140i (the condition was as described).
I’m pleased with the 130i, it’s not perfect (it’s 14 years old and I’m a realist) but I’m looking forward to getting stuck into it and making it ‘mine’.
The suspension is very good. It’s firm, really quite firm at times but it feels very well judged any controlled. It’s night and day better than the M140i was; it’s far less busy and jiggly. Their set up must make a massive difference to the F20’s.
I’ll get a proper readers car thread started over the next few days but my first mods are already done; stubby aerial fitted as is a red starter button.

I always loved that colour and the Lemon leather works really well, but all the LEs are all 3 doors and I'd want 5. That was one of the reasons I sold my E46 325ti.
Anyway I'll look out for developments!

I look forward to your thread. I'd agree with that. I find it a little busy at low speeds, but there's a quality of damping that the standard cars just don't seem to have. When you really do start to 'abuse' it on a B road it feels much more at home, and well worth the price. On motorway lane changes and that awful part of the M25 it's much better, too. It’s home, utterly filthy which is a shame after Jason’s hard work to prep it well. Absolutely stunning!Looks like it scrubs up pretty well for an old girl.
Beautiful car. Far more distinctive and unique that the M140i too. Cant see that ever depreciating and will likely to continue to go up a little year on year

I usually say enjoy it...but from your post I can see that you already are!
Anyway back on topic my wife has been doing the school run all week in it and it has averaged 26mpg so not too bad. Get to take it out myself this weekend, it is seriously rapid though and the pops and crackles are just comical for a family bus
