Please just sit with engine running top down before you pull the trigger. If the noise is not a problem. I very much hope you enjoy the car.
Yes I expect that but not bothered , I didnt buy it to listen to the engine.Edited by Petrol Only on Thursday 31st July 08:58
Cheaper tax, econmical.
Is servicing more expensive than petrol ?
cheers
Servicing will make a small difference, not much but it will be a touch higher.
Engine on the 320D sounds like a tractor on a cold start but quickly sorts itself out and gets very refined for a diesel very quickly. Engine clatter from a diesel is most prominent on a derv when it’s idle, not really a big issue on a car with stop-start.

Believe it or not, lots actually prefer the way diesels drive with the added benefit of saving thousandsin fuel costs...
Nice car - enjoy !
To save thousands you need to be doing 30k+ a year.Nice car - enjoy !
That's not most people. The op has clarified he will be happy with the noise it makes. People were just making him aware it's hardly a refined motor for a vert. Especially as he has not driven it yet. After all he did ask for opinions.

Indeed. Not to mention the fact that diesels are generally more expensive to buy in the first place. And if like the OP your just mooching around town doing short journeys then you may encounter some increased costs if your DPF goes kaput.A small capacity blown petrol is the way to go if that's your remit.
I did look at a 2 litre petrol a few months back actually, the 2 litre diesel is more economical, faster , cheaper tax also. both cars were 20,000. petrol was a manual too in white . Mine is silver, oh and mine has loads of options in it too.
both similiar cars but different engines .
Anyway glad with what I purchased :-)
Typically its raining all day saturday when I pick it up !!

Has anyone I the professional sat nav.? Any good.? Also does that voice recognition actually work ?
Cheers
Yes and yes, it is very good, not sure but if you've got the updated pro nav (short cut buttons around the idrive controller) they should be able to update to the latest version of the software Cheers

Sounds good, so with voice controller I can control air con, radio , sat nav etc ?I have parking sensors too so hopefully that will appear in that sat nav screen. Apologies for being a bit behind the times, my last beemer was a MY96 and the best that had was electric windows
just checked the top gear website for their review- I rest my case lol
'BMW has evidently worked hard on wind flutter, too – keeping it away, that is. Of the myriad engines, only the 320i and 325i petrols are lacking pace, and even though the thought of a four-cylinder diesel convertible is depressing, get over yourself: the 320d has more than enough quiet strength for the job'

I came from a 997 and after about a month realised the weight of the cab just destroyed any performance of the 335i Cab. The DCT gearbox was a peach, the car a lovely place to be in and the sound of the straight 6 was lovely but the drive was pretty dull.
My wife had a 320D M sport a couple of years ago and in day-to-day driving that was every bit as much fun as the 335i, the 320D engine is lovely and in our 120D M sport has a good turn of pace........but without the weight of the ragtop!
Mine also had leaks from the day I got it until the day it went back, it also suffered from vibrating front wings which is an easy fix but irritating until you know that's the problem!
You'll be fine as long as you're going in with your eyes open
By the way, I sold my 997 Monday am, bought my 335i DCT Cab pm over the phone from Park Lane BMW and picked it up Wednesday am having never driven it.....
I've also bought 535D M sport, X5 3.0D M Sport and F10 M5 from new without driving any of them until the day they arrived......I guess I know what I'm going to get when I buy such cars so ignore those who suggest it's not the norm or bad form
