Whilst you've got that lot off check for water behind strut tops, in the bit where brake gubbins sit, the plugs block causing all sorts of issues.

Interesting you say that. There was an inch of standing water right at the bottom under the OSF microfilter once you get all the plastics off. Nothing nearside.

Squeegied it all out but can't see any drain holes in there.

Good work that man!

Not sure any water could survive in my engine bay - It gets so hot!

My buddy just visited me in this:

I am seething with jealousy after missing out on GT4 allocation!

It's wonderful!!!

But you can see the real beast in the background wink

Jez - Found your message in my Junk Box - Hope you got my reply!

What was it you were fixing?

Re the water, there's a rubber gromit that sits in the cut out for the drain, it's at the lowest point.

That's one of the first 3.8 Spyders to be delivered. Looks fast standing still and has a fantastic exhaust note!

Showed him my Clio V6 and he asked where the rest of it was! I hate him.

I may need to get an NA Flat-6 981 before they're all 4-pot turbos!

Is that the new Spyder?

It looks great, silver would never be my choice but it works very very very well! Love it (even though it's 2 cylinders short of a proper engine)

Our posts crossed, it is the new Spyder indeed! I'd have never chosen GT silver but it really works with all the grey and black detailing!

I'm in love... but the dog would ruin it so i'll have to stick to the V8 powered car for now!

He also has the beautiful 918 carbon seats!

The wipers had recently developed a habit of not parking properly. When they returned to the bottom of the screen they were popping up a few inches back into view.

Google suggested a few causes however the one which sounded most likely to me was the 'excess grease inside wiper motor' I found from a Z4 guy on bimmerforums.

So, had to dismantle everything to get at the wiper motor, open the motor up, dab away the grease and reassemble. There was some head scratching along the way as I couldn't get the last retainer out to remove the entire wiper assembly. But, instead I loosened some stuff off and detached a pivot which enabled me to persuade the motor out of the recess to access the cover.

Hell of a job! But a very satisfying fix.

Aren't they manual only the Spyder? As lovely as they are I think that kind of car needs the PDK box.

I'm over changing mine now it's too useful, out main car is a 0.9 Turbo Clio which is useable most the time but odd occasions we just need the space, like tomorrow taking dog to local RSPB for a swim etc and the 550i Tourer is just perfect for it!

Result, I had the very same issue on my old E90 335d and it was the wiper relay.

Nothing like saving a few hours garage labour for a fairly straightforward job.

Yeah my specialist diagnosed a new wiper motor at 250 ish plus labour. Instead I cleaned the existing motor and did the labour myself. Probably saved about 500 quid which gets mentally reallocated to the 19" wheel fund...

There's no 'man' in PDK wink

All joke aside, I'd have specced PDK-S in 'my' GT4 as it's a 'race car for th road' but a manual in the Spyder is right for me, a high day car for the hills and lakes of Italy...

I need one in my life!

For reference did you just use some contact cleaner into the wires and it was good to go? I'm guessing there shouldn't be a trace of grease in the motor? It's just worked its way in from the links?

I fancy some 19" now, tyres are getting low on the back so it's the time to do it. Spiders definitely look the best but the touring required 4 x front wheels as I don't want to run spacers to have the wider wheels on the back.

Not cheap though, have you seen the seller on bmw5 selling reps?

I'd spec it too in most things these days, a new Porsche like that is a million times out of my league though so I'll not be worrying about it too much!

Hopefully he doesn't sell it before I can afford... Sadly, I think it's unlikely!

Still, I love my big old barge! Could do with another 50bhp though!

http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1115530-Fix-walkthrough-for-faulty-wipers

Here's the walk through from the Z4, steps 11 and 12 are exactly what I did, just wiped off the excess. Obvs the removal of trim bits differs.

Spiders not cheap but touring sets do come up. Alternatively you can run staggered with spacers. I'm undecided as yet however it won't be Spiders they look a ballache to keep clean! See my other thread here about non standard wheels for what I'm considering...

Let me know if you see a Touring set as I'll be really interested, not into spacers and having wheels almost poking out of arches.

They do look awkward to clean, but so are the mv2's, I just much prefer multispoke type wheels.
