Quit with the sixes!!!

This is a thread for V8s and V8s only!!!

Take a look at yourselves! Look at what you have become!

For shame!

Yeah, sorry - I thought it might provide some useful context and I have had two 545i Tourings!

Back on the E61s, spec made a big difference to how much I liked mine. The second one had exclusive leather (much nicer to touch than the Nasca leather which came with the ventilated seats on the first, and it extended to a few extra areas of the centre console) and SE suspension with Adaptive Drive (i.e. active anti-roll bars). So it rode better but didn't roll so handled better too. Sadly it seems to be just as rare on F11s as it was on E61s.

Mine seems to be running nicely at the moment.

I still fancy a few more horses though...

There's a lovely M5 Touring in Reader's Cars at the moment - Liking these more and more!

My pleasure hehe

For me what kills it is the fact it's got the same size tank as ours but about two thirds of the economy. Filling up every 250 miles or less would really start to grate as a daily!

Oh and the gearbox.

This.
And yet the E60 M5 was available as a "stick" in the US? The shame.

Manual E61 M5? Sign me up.

Indeed. Hence why mine is a manual.

Yes, it's not an M car, but it does change the car's character from auto-slushtronic waftmobile to point to point uber-weapon winkhehe

LOL - likely a fair bit cheaper than 'upgrading' to the V10!

What a scary thread that was! Read it start to finish in the end! I can see why some people always buy in network now!

Yeah, very scary. It's like 911 IMS explosion type money - frightening!

In other news, windscreen took a whack on the motorway the other day, I have a small crack in my field of view and an MOT looming. Called autoglass, replacement is arranged already. It was going to be tomorrow but when I requested an OEM screen from BMW they said it may take a little longer to source. Called back shortly afterwards with a booking for Monday.

Good service so far, fingers crossed.

That is good service - nice work!

The thing is, guys like Autofarm and Hartech can sort your 996/7 (I had one). It sounds like there isn't really a big, well-developed independent network for sorting S65s and S852, though I might be wrong?

i.e. it usually ends up costing more than the Porsche might and a BMW with a broken engine is probably worth less than the Porsche with a broken engine.

I would LOVE a V10 M5 but I do wonder if the bottom end and gearbox woes would keep me awake at night, even if the chances are slim that anything would go wrong!

Then again, I guess you just pay ~10% more and buy in network for peace of mind.

If my 545i engine broke, I could pick up a whole donor car for far less than the cost of a V10 engine refurb! Maybe I am just talking myself into a supercharger now - LOL!

Make your own Alpina.

I like my 550 now I am driving it less. Its a big soft car with daft power. I think the added poke from a blower makes more sense than upgrading to the M5.

Who sells them?

This is something I'm considering in the handling stakes. Mine's 10 years old this summer, and will have 120k miles by then. I'm looking at a Birds B5 kit, or sourcing the Bilsteins/Eibachs/ACS springs and having them fitted, along with any bushings etc which need doing.

Simpson (http://www.simpsonmotorsport.com/default.asp?id=111&pid=69&name=Super/Turbocharging&page=Services) are the ESS dealer I know of!

I've been waiting over 6 months for them to get back to me with a price biggrin
