OP does seem to have been running around trying to save at best £40?

Still, £40 is £40.
It's about £80 - and that's just by clicking on Amazon for two bottles of oil and collecting it on the way to the dealer from the Amazon locker. Hardly much effort at all? Plus a couple of calls for quotes. You may call that "running around", I call that basic common sense approach.

Also, I use my father in law's garage and pay no labour for all my car repairs, so I could save over 50% by going the indy route hence my questions. Since when does anybody, millionaire or not, have to make excuses to save money? I find that kinda bemusing ...

To be fair to me, the information around servicing is not provided with car or apparent on the BMW website. The traditional service book doesn't exist. Obviously BMW want you to go back to them for a hassle free - but premium cost - service, but thankfully the law says you can take your car anywhere. I like choice

I totally agree with the poster above. Why would you not save money when you can?

I supplied my own oil for my Porsche when it was serviced and refused non essential work and saved £300 compared to my Father in law who had his serviced at the same time.

I also supplied my own oil for my Mercedes service last year to stop the robbing bds making a profit out of that.

Last month I bought a 430D for £22k and yesterday I bought a 981 Boxster S for £39k cash and both will have me shopping around for the best service price come the time.

I am not giving my money away just because some bell ends on PH think it makes you look big and powerful to get bent over by a dealer !

Exactly - OP buys a what £43k car + and then is concerned about servicing cost of an oil change even considering trying to save a few pennies in taking oil in. If things are that bad please buy a 3 year old car instead.
There's a big difference between not being able to afford something and being financially prudent.

IMO, the OP is doing the right thing - shopping around.

I seem to remember a tale on PH some time ago of a poster who regularly dropped his Murcielago off for servicing with the pre-bought oil neatly sitting on the passenger seat because he got fed up with Lamborghini's ridiculous mark up on the same thing....

Indeed, why waste money if you don't need too.

Yup, you either take the oil or 'they' take the piss.

Just to post an update, I got my first service done in the end for £100 in total at the independent garage - but that's because I didn't pay labour. Even if labour was £50, that's still half the price quoted by BMW.

I bought 10 litres of Mobil1 ESP 5W30 oil - only 6.5 litres needed for the car so you're probably better off getting a bundle like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/7k/Castrol-EDGE-Engine-...

After 12500 miles:
Front and rear brakes were 60-65% remaining (BMW brakes seem to produce the most brake dust)
Oil was 100% according to the sensor before being drained - well done BMW. I guess it is sealed?

The garage electronically updated the vehicle service info as well so all in all a great experience.

Been my 64 plate 330d flashed up needing an oil change. Snows BMW quoted £482 inc vat and parts. This was oil change , fuel filter, micro filter and air filter change. Car is on 31k miles.
Sounds a lot to me ? It’s is worth trying another bmw franchise to quote or would it just be the same ?

The fuel filter is the big step up which does need doing but not each oil service try every other.

BMW N57 filters are expensive if genuine BMW branded - for the F01/F06/F10/F11/F12/F13 - on a 3 there might be different parts (like the micro filter)

Air Filter - 13718518111 £60, I believe the OE is Mann.

Micro (pollen filters) - 64119272642 £96, I believe the OE is Mahle (different for your 330)

Fuel Filter - 13327811227 £49 (Mahle)

The real killer cost here is the pollen filters which are huge money from BMW.

Every other service needs the major air and fuel filters changing.

BMW are currently using Mahle for N57 air filters.
