Hi, was passing my BMW dealer and was surprised at how much cheaper new type z4s have become. I was tempted to look at one to replace my ageing 325 Compact. But when I read reviews I get the impression that the balance and throttle adjustability that a good e46 has is not there in the z4. Has anyone driven both enough to give a fair assessment? Just concerned I might switch to something that ultimately I don't enjoy. Thanks.

I've had an E46 M3, an E92 M3 and now a Z4 35i. I wanted the Z4 because I had a 2 seater convertible itch that needed scratching. Its certainly not got the handling polish of the E46 or E92, but its a great cruiser on the motorway, which is where is spends most of its time. Plus the engine is fantastic for every day driving; coupled with the DCT gearbox its really enjoyable to drive. The runflats need to be ditched though as they really ruin the ride.

Agreed on the above, I have an sdrive30i, it is not a sports car, it was never meant to be one, its just a cruiser. If you set your expectations right, it's a brilliant car, but when people start comparing it to caymans etc it all falls apart slightly.

Thanks for that, think I need to try one, maybe persuade the dealer to let me borrow it for half a day.
