Hi, I'm new to the forums and have a 325 Compact. As I'm planning on keeping the car, particularly with the way values have gone, I'm doing my own yearly oil changes, rather than the 24 months my mileage would allow. I'm confused over what tool I need to reset the service indicator, the car is an 02 reg.

BTW in case anyone else is interested in doing there own servicing I'd recommend looking at Sealey Tools site, they sold me the large socket for the oil filter cover which makes the job easier and lets you use a torque wrench when tightening the cover, cost about £8 if I remember.

cheers

The service indicator is just that - a service indicator. It's not an oil change indicator and just changing the oil every year isn't quite sufficient.

Yes, I'm aware of the service shedule and it's all done as specified, it's just I prefer to change the oil more often than every 24 months.

I'd recommend then that you simply do that - change the oil, but complete the rest of the servicing as required by the indicator and thus leave the indicator be?

Shirley, if you're having it serviced as normal, then the reset will be done for you. The fact that you decide to change the oil every 12 months, shouldn't make any difference...should it?
