On my E36 M3 Evo. Is there a way to get the front wishbone bushes off without:

a) specialist equipment?
b) removing the wishbone?

I'm changing to poly bushes. I've replaced the front anti-roll bar bushes but I can't get the old wishbone bushes off. They are seriously tight! Any suggestions? TIA.

Have you tried a pulling tool?

Hmm, I bought a set of gear pullers for about £15 and they did the job but even then it wasn't the easiest of tasks. Thinking about it you could just butcher the rubber with a drill whilst you tug at it violently. Prise the bush where it makes contact with the wishbone and get some WD40 in there to help me 'slide' it off. If you can cut the bulk of the bush out (which will still be attached to the lollipop) you could just Dremmel the remainder of the rubber off the wishbone.

Quite easy.
Drill through the side of the rubbers and wiggle the drill then the whole lollipop will come off. The remainder on the arm can be cut off with a stanley knife. The bushes can then be slotted with a hacksaw and tapped out.

Fit the new bushes with silicone sealant as a lubricant, not WD40.

And dont forget you need eccentric bushes on an M3 not concentric.

Much better put than I. Although when I fitted my new bushes (non poly) I used fairy liquid and a bit of water, was that bad?

Thank you guys, I will go for this method and report back. I have the eccentic bushes ready to go - one related question; how should eccentric bush be located on the wishbone? By my reckoning it seems that the toe in/out can be affected by which way the bush is positioned but this seems wierd. The new bush is in two pieces (one which slots over the end of the wishbone itself) so that the eccentric bit can be freely rotated before being fitted. Am I missing something or just being dumb? TIA.

The latter is best of those three, silicone or WD 40 will remain their lubricating the contact between bush and wishbone so allowing the two to slip and defeat the object of the bushes job.

The fairy liquid will dry out and leave a tight fit, just for the record we use glass cleaner.

On my 205 GTi the bushes were so tight I had to burn them out.
