Ok, so am provisionally looking at these for around this time next year, I will be upgrading at that time and want something with 6 Cylinders and RWD, the E46 is the obvious choice (Manual of course, Silver with Black leather if possible)

Budget will be around £6000, could perhaps push that a little to £7k if required.

Now looking at the current state of the classifieds they are avaliable with around 80-100k from £7000

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/712060.htm

with slightly newer/lower mileage cars coming in at around £8.5k

So the question is.....will these likely drop £1000 in a year? obviously they are going to be subject to £300 tax...something which will work in my favour, what would you lot predict the prices are going to be in a year (or so's) time?

Also...Do you think it worthwhile to wait for a 2003 Facelift model to become affordable (they seem significantly more expensive) the Lights dont bother me (perfer the pre facelift front end, and LED rears are easily fitted, but is the 6 speed box make a significant improvement over the 5 cog unit?

The guides are all over the place at the moment
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition: £6240
Average condition: £5640
Below average condition: £4990

It's petrol and its a big engine - its unpopular in the current climate. Which is good if you are a buyer. There's loads out there and you have the upper hand when buying these sorts of cars - so haggle hard!

Good luck - great car choice.

Cheers,
Matt

Get one pre 2001 and you get it at the old tax rate smile

But like said - buyers market when it comes to a big engine petrol car at the moment

They only introduced the 330Ci Sport later in 2001, so all of them are affected by the tax changes. Only older non Sport 330Ci's are exempt from the new tax rates.

Carry on with your life and when that time comes around see what you can buy. This time next year is a long way.

I like to have something to save towards, have decided on one of these but am just trying to calculate when they are likely to come into range....May even be in a position to buy in March if things go well.

They've already taken a big drop in the last 6-12 months. 6k would be pushing it a bit for one worth buying by next Summer IMO. Don't buy at the bottom of the range, plenty of tired and used/abused cars out there already that will need constant money thrown at them and worn components.

What's the main differences between a sport and a non sport 330ci?

Used car prices are 'on their arse'.

Residuals have dropped by 25% and this is set to decline as the cost per barrel of oil is increasing after a sharp fall.

I honestly believe that current residual values are not being reflected in sales prices on here and at some dealers.

There is a real opportunity to buy cars like this due to the lower mpg and perception of bad mpg. Many are moving to diesels.

I think you will easily find a car with <70k and younger than you might imagine.

Try speaking to your local dealer, they will happily do a deal on a px car that they take in, as these things are not doing well at BCA / Manheim auctions.
