Hi,

I'm trying to find information on owning and running a e39 530d touring, as I'm looking for a solid towcar, that is also a decent steer, and able to swallow up miles.

What should I be looking out for? Guideance on common failures, expensive consumeables, and any other information you might be able to offer would be very useful.

Covered quite a few times but in brief, things to look out for are turbo and injectors, as well as the rear air suspension (+ rust in the fuel filler area).

Thanks, I tried the search, but it just came up with error messages, hence I had to post.

The thing is, how do you check the turo / injectors? Does the turbo stop completely, or is it an issue with the vane actuator (presumably it's variable vane?), and likewise the injectors presumably when they go wrong the engine warning light is illuminated?

Have 195K miles on mine now, has blown one air spring and replaced dampers.

Air spring cos about £150 and is a diy change

Its' a great car
