320d se too slow
Discussion
Don't know if anyone can offer advice - I've recently bought my wife a 2001 320d and find it incredibly slow (coming from A4 diesel & 330 petrol). Had it into dealer as I was sure it was not right but they say nothing is wrong (no fault codes displayed). Anyone recommend a decent method of tuning (not concerned about losing warranty etc). Wouldn't normally bother but I'm finding it very frustrating and I'm not in a position to move it on for at least a year or so. Any advice gratefully received.

Getting these cars remapped makes a massive difference.
e-maps did mine about a month ago and changed it from something that I found boring to drive every day into a car that I actually like to take for a drive occasionally for the hell of it.
More low down power, more mid-range, pulls well until past 4,000rpm, quieter, smoother and more fuel efficient.
The best money that I've every spent modifying a car, with no downsides (other than the tread on the back tyres...)

Engine transplant?
Buy a car that isn't a 4-pot diesel?
Seriously tho the best bet is to speak to people like Evolve or DMS and see what they can do. Depends how much money you want to throw at your 4-pot derv, doesn't it!!!
They normally go alright as standard, I took one in px that was particularly slow, I think it needed a new MAF sensor or something. No point re-mapping it if its not working properly to start with, get it looked at/driven by a specialist, then once you are satisfied all is well go for more power.

I'd agree with that, I bought a 2000 320d a couple of months ago and wasn't impressed with how quick it was. It felt very sluggish off the lights and didn't feel like it was boosting properly, I did a proper service and changed the pressure converter which didn't make much difference. I then bought a new MAF a couple of weeks ago and it feels like a changed car, much more responsive and a lot quicker. Mine didn't have any fault codes either.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
