z4 engine flatspots

My friends 2.0 litre, z4 58 plate is suffering from flatspots under acceleration. But not all the time. Basically when flat out at about 3-4000 rpms power is lost intermittently.

Is this common with the Z4?

He's obviously going to take it a dealer to be looked at but wanted some ammunition if needed.

My money would be on something electrical - a sensor, most likely. Get it on a diagnostic machine and have a look-see.
