420d gran coupe msport opinions
Discussion
Seen a nice 420d msport and it's a nice looking car seems to be what I'm looking For in a car
What are they like to live with?
Real world mpg?
Handling? Are they a nippy car or is it abit underpowered?
I drive a lot of motorways and B roads and these a lot of the time are busy will the car be good for getting passed the Sunday drivers or will it need abit of a run up?
Anything else please state your opinions on them
Thanks

Good cars, I've got a 420d M Sport Coupe which is basically the same thing.
8 speed ZF auto is the transmission I would recommend, I've done 15,000 miles in mine (in 6 months) - a mixture of motorways and commuting into London - overall average is about 48-49mpg - circa 550 miles on a 55 litre tank which isn't bad.
Performance is perfectly adequate, depends what you're coming from - the 430d would certainly have more performance, but the 420 is more than adequate.
Ride is good on runflats these days, even on the 19s, handling is fine, but it feels like a bigger car than the E90 series.

..Can I add I had a 2ltr diesel one series now a 3ltr diesel 3 series...honestly several levels above in performance and feel ,but actually think MPG is better overall (eco pro helps when your in motorway traffic at 60/70 mph)
I would test drive both ??? I was happy enough in the 2 ltr but could never go back now. A massive difference.

My budget can't stretch to a 3 litre as its a contract hire so it's quite limited and the 420d just comes in my budget,
I've been to look at a cracker of a car in alpine white with the msport carbon lip m performance skirts and wheels it rly does look nice and it's a few month old 64 plate dealer car with only 100 mile on the clock so I'm hoping to get it even cheaper than a new contract lease with it been classed as a used car

..white is interesting not being funny here ..has anyone ever hand on heart seen one on the road that looks as good as it did sitting and tempting you in the showroom, most I see look dull tired and well not good ?
Good luck with your new car!

I like white, my current car is white and as a detail writ can be a dream and a nightmare to clean, I also do vehicle wraps in my own time sound I ever got bored I could always change the colour,
Nothing is bought or contracted as yet this is one of 3 cars I'm looking at
420d grancoupe
335d saloon
Audi 2.0tdi avant Quattro black edition
I'm waiting for figures on all 3 cars and going to test drive each of them and see which feels right to me,
This thread was to gauge what ppl thought of them and to get an owners perspective on day to day living

I've got a 435d XDrive Gran Coupe M Sport on order, due in September.
Gone for Black Sapphire with Coral Dakota, M Sport Plus Package, Adaptive Suspension, Internet and Online Entertainment.
Had a white 320d XDrive M Sport which was a good car just not quick enough and boot access a bit tight for baby stuff!
Looked at Audi and Merc always came back to BMW.

My brother has this car, all be it xDrive which I've had for the last 2 weeks whilst he's had my F33. Not used to the 20d engines as usually have a 30d.
MPG is currently at 44.6 MPG on the total 9,600 miles the car has covered with the SP Auto. ( again xDrive so sDrive probably more).
Power is fine. Cruises at 90 at around 2,000 rpm and gets the quickly and comfortably. Will keep going easy enough. Overtakes well enough for all the people who seem to think a national speed limit is 40. For general day to day use in the UK it's absolutely fine and still fun to drive. It's obviously not as quick and noticeable if you drive them back to back, but it's no slouch.
Boot is brilliant. My F32 was a pain to get stuff in, this F36 just makes it so much more useable.
Assuming it's a new car, option wise the only thing I'd recommend looking at is M Sport Plus if you can. Whilst it's a £1,900 option, on contract hire it's usually not that much more due to added residual. Metallic is usually cheaper than Alpine as well.
The ivory white on the GC which you can't get on the Coupe is amazing. Love it, would choose it every time.

The business manager who I know quite well arranged a demo car for the weekend , when we went to pick it up he whispered to my wife " he'll not like it " .
He was right , bought another 520D M sport , a far superior car to drive imho.
White needs to be clean to have the wow factor and I think Alpine White really does look good when clean.
I was torn between Estoril and Alpine and went Alpine in the end (with red leather).
My Mum drives a 420d M Sport in coupe guise and it's a cracking car and to be honest plenty fast enough in most situations. I just couldn't resist the 435d as I didn't want to drive 'the same car as your Mum'

How do you find it for marks etc? I was pretty adamant that I wanted a Carbon Black car with Ivory White leather but I have two children and I'm worried the seats will mark easily.Does denim dye stain them or have you protected them?
I won't be having the Audi, the 420d I've now been told they won't do contract hire on it after a week of been messed around!
So my plan now is for a 330d saloon or touring, I drove one today and rly enjoyed it
Only problem is me will only accept 6x payments upfront and can't get nowhere near nationwide vehicle contracts on price and nationwide vehicle contracts will accept 12x payments upfront

Overall cost my budget is ideally 300 per month and up to 350 with options
The 335 over my mileage and term comes in at £348 and ideally I'd like pro nav and a few other bits
The 330d saloon comes in at £304 this allows pro nav and msport plus pack and in all honesty it's fast enough and faster than my current car
