I went to Santa Pod at the weekend in my ''mapped'' 335d LOL
Discussion
No seriously. It was a great day.
First run of the day was against a nice chap in a re-mapped 305bhp Vectra VXR. He had a bullet cam attatched to his windscreen and filmed our run.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i0FIyuow7E
We had another run with the same result. He was impressed and is going to buy a 335d now.
I then ran against my mate Jay who has a Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.8Turbo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBF3LenCXRM
This time MY camera and mount was set up in his car. I did a 13.7@105mph and he did a 15.5@90mph which = a large gap.
Then i wanted to race this VXR8 Supercharged 560bhp monster.
BEAT HIM and recorded my best time ever
was well chuffed with my 13.3@105.75mph.
I called it day after that, it was lunchtime and had to get home. The Supercharged VXR8 later that day posted a 13.28. So just beating me. But i think if i had stayed and run again i could have run quicker time aswell.
So if im as quick as cars like that, its fair to say a mapped 335d is a fast car. An e36 m3 did a 13.7@101mph there also.
The VXR8 owner is on PH and said my car was very fast.
Thanks

Is there really any need to try so hard to prove you own a fast car?

Sorry for not getting excited but 0-60s, and 1/4 mile times are just not that interesting. How does it feel? How exciting is it to hustle along a twisty B-road? Does it make you smile every time you get into it? Do you go for a drive at 5am just for the hell of it? For me, a 3-series just doesn't have that level of excitement, however fast it is.
The stopwatch never lies, but it rarely tells you anything interesting either.
Yes i do enjoy driving it, and it does bring a smile to my face. Not as much as a f430 scuderia would though. The stopwatch never lies, but it rarely tells you anything interesting either.

The 335d is easy to launch but no good for launching, no LSD and short first and 2nd gears. Which is a hindrance.

Anyone can do a half decent launch in one, but the car AINT built for it and AINT a quick launcher.

The people in the Subarus and evos probably didnt launch as hard as possible
I have something around 260-280bhp - and if I utterly monster the launch (which is about 1 in 3 attempts) I can squeeze under 14 seconds... And I consider the Toyota fairly brisk.I don't do it often, it always feels like something will break.

Well I for one think that those times are very impressive.
I would consider an E92 M3 to be a very quick car in the real world. For a diesel version to post similar times over a standing quarter, which I'd argue is not where it will be at its strongest, is very, very impressive.
I can only imagine how that must feel on the road.
Obviously the original poster has rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way, an a lot of people have seen fit to include "335 (mapped)" in almost evry post they make, but I think those vids show a very quick car.
Yes I know we can all give examples of quicker, but if I understand correctly, its a standard car with a remap. and a lot of "performance" cars would struggle to put in 13.3s.
It's horses for courses, but it would make me wonder wether an M3 was as capable for an average driver in real world give and take traffic.
thankyou, and on the road it does pull away from cars like the e46 m3.I would consider an E92 M3 to be a very quick car in the real world. For a diesel version to post similar times over a standing quarter, which I'd argue is not where it will be at its strongest, is very, very impressive.

Good on you dxb335d for properly enjoying your car, and a big thumbs up for posting the Santa Pod vids.
And a big thumbs down to all the guys giving dxb335d such a hard time, some rather nasty comments have been made.
Perhaps they know deep down the mapped 335d is superior to their own cars? The ladies protest too much ; )
I am a long time petrol only fan, but this anti-mapped 335d backlash is perversely increasing their appeal to me. I have previously driven an unmapped 535d which I wasn't that impressed by, but now I'm going to arrange a drive of a mapped 335d.

Now i want to thankyou again for a decent post. You are a levelled head individual. I wish everyone else was as nice as you mate. I would consider an E92 M3 to be a very quick car in the real world. No one else cares to post positive things. I mean diesels have come along way. Surely this is postive people.

Yes i do, spoke to him in length before and after the run. He is a nice chap who is on here, and rekons my car is fast.
I dont want to sound rude, but despite your protests, that statement completley highlights your inferiority complex. Dude, please, lets have no more of this deplorable claptrap.
but to be fair his car is faster than mine. He set a tenth quicker at the end of the day and 2mph faster. over 120 he would leave me standing. Still i was happy with my result
