I've got my ideas on the value of this car but would appreciate some of your views.

98 S. M3 Evo, Boston with Black Vader.

35k miles with FSH, Part BMW part Indy.

Boston is the killer IMO. Estoril/Silver/Anything but Boston.

Walk away. There's plenty of straight ones... unless you're relying on this deal to shift a car of your own… in which case £4k if it’s a manual, significantly less if it’s an SMG.
The car is coming as a Part Exchange. It is very straight and the miles are great.

I was refering more to the Cat D status than the condition of the car really – That will make it a complete pain to shift in the future as there are plenty of non-Cat D cars out there to choose from which, ironically, may be in worse condition, but don’t carry the stigma of being an insurance write-off and as such won’t be treated with suspicion.
I know what you meant but I feel the miles and condition outweigh Cat D.

If te car is bought at right money of course.

Was he trying to hide this then ?I would not bother if he is trying it on mate.
Not at all, I bid him £5k and he sent me the HPI report. Nice to meet an honest person.
