BMW dealers retail the kit for £1150 inc vat. With a bit of phoning around it's easy enough to get them down to less than £950...

Think it's basically any of the current 1 series and 3 series range, though the 135i already has almost exactly this setup, not sure about the 335i. And of course the M3 probably has better brakes than this already biggrin

I just wanted something for a fast road setup, i don't even do track days any more so the worst hammering i ever give the brakes is Brecon Beacons, the Alps, the 'Ring, etc.

I'd say Pete was still suffering somewhat, as Ive heard a story over the weekend about forgetting to connect a brake line (left completely dangling in fresh air) and the mistake only being realised when starting the brake bleeding stage. Is that true Pete? biggrin
Yeah, sober but tired biggrin

Good to meet you at last, was wondering where you'd run off to.

Still haven't sorted the pics yet, but here's a couple of teasers:

They look amazing!

Wondering if they could be adapted for the E39 M5??
They require 17" wheels according to BMW so i don't see why you couldn't adapt the calipers at least, not sure about the discs but you could probably use the standard discs couldn't you?

Stuff
Definitely more piston area than stock, and the pads are a little over twice the area of the stock ones. The new brakes feel powerful, have much more progression, build up less heat, and i haven't actually been able to induce the ABS yet since fitting the new brakes, whereas in these slippery conditions the ABS used to kick in regularly with the stock brakes, especially over manhole covers and so on.

Does anybody know if this will fit an E46 330d saloon?
Not straight out of the box it won't but it might with some modification.

Forgot to weigh the stuff but in short:
Original front calipers weighed less, but new discs bigger and lighter so approx same overall i'd guess.
Rear setup similar, approx same weight.
So from four single piston sliding calipers to a pair of six pots and a pair of two pots.
Front discs larger diameter and drilled and grooved (already vented), rear discs comparable to originals, perhaps a little bigger (already vented).

Very hard to experience fade as the BMW has a system which compensates for brake fade by applying additional pressure for you - so if you are getting fade you can't tell at the pedal. You CAN tell by the smell though when you get out of the car.

So, no i had not experienced fade on the road but i had gotten the brakes hot and smelly without trying too hard so it's possible that they would have faded but the car had compensated.

Biggest difference though is control and feel, the new brakes give you so much more control than the old single pots.

When i bought the kit is was £1150 inc vat retail price, so if they are charging you more than that they are either including fitting or the prices have gone up...
