Hi Guys

Just scouting round for a 650i as my company car goes in a couple of months.

Noticed there all automatics and was wondering what its like.

Ive got a R32 DSG at the minute. So im a bit nervey going to a normal auto, Especially a slushbox as ive herd it called.

Not seen many SMG ones either although i gather it is an option. Is that something worth looking at?

Any 650i owners wanna share any stories too, feel free. Would love to know what ownerships like, especially in this snow.. lol

Just saw a M5 owner mention it in Gassing...

This is going to be my daily driver so wanna make sure it will takle most days. But tbh we didnt get a load of snow here being on the coast, and rarely do... Im sure im just being a minge....

Ill be RWD this RWD that a month after owning...

Cheers for ya advise man...

Any other 6 series owners wanna share some views on stuff.... Is the 650i a load better than the 645 ci... I cant help but want the 650i, but wouldnt mind saving some pennies i suppose....

Whats your opinions on the normal auto box? Are there paddles? also how many gears is it?

Really considering a 645i aswell now.. Save those extra pennies..

Hey Chris

Cheers for that mate..

The box sounds similar to the DSG tbh. D mode does feel alot more sluggish that S mode... But S mode will hold your gears.. So its just a case of Flicking between them both. I always drop into S for roundabouts and junctions, then back into d once im off...Unless using it in manual mode.

So are there paddles on this box? If so how many gears is there, is it the full 6. Or is it like merc boxes and crappy autos where you have 4 gears? Like M1 M2 M3 M4....

So overall are you happy with the car? Ive herd mixed reports on the feel of the car, does it feel as big as it is.. Ive herd not at all untill you really push it, but other reports are that it does feel very large all the time. Which i suppose is a little obvious at its a big car.. lol

Hopefully going to test drive one this weekend at a local garage, but definatley buying from a franchise dealer.

Would love to here more views from owners, got the reading bug...

Ta Mark

My final worry is colour.... lol

I love these cars in black.. But i promised myself about 8 years ago id never get a black car again. Mainly down to swirl marks...

How is the BM black paint? My Cupras swirl marks looked almost 3d sometimes as they where that bad.
I know to an extent this is down to cleaning etc.. but some paints fair better than others...

Obviousley if you havent got a black car ignore me.. lol

Observe: user objectivity, unsullied by ownership bias. (M6.)

SMG is fantastic - no, better than fantastic - for fully bored assaults and in those instances, it pees over all transmissions bar other paddle jobs. Ergo, I only drive the car as a man from Shorpe.

Other than that, it really is the car's profound weakness and whatever anyone else says, that is the truth of it, trust me.

Which is why the B6S is the more rounded offering.
Sorry to be crap, but whats a B6S... The Slushbox?

Hey Guys

Yeh GMan started all the M6 lunacy.. lol... Had to come and piss on my bonfire hey.. wink

Im all GT myself at the moment. Nice slush Box to troll about in, then getting an elise or vx220 turbo after the summer for some fun....

Cheers for all ya help though folks, been a great read. Off to test drive a High Milage 645i tommorow. No intention of buying that one, but its at the dealers os he said to come and have a drive smile..

As were talking GTs, What are XKs servicing costs? Would one be massively more expensive to run adn maintain?

Oh and GMan, if your near the north west, ill expect a ride smile

Can see (and hear!) the appeal but virtually all of the road tests at the time rated the E46 M3CS as the better drivers car.... wink
Im A Big Girl and would love the traction and grip from the 4WD.. Maybe not on a track, but for every day to day driving.. yes please..

Tigerkoi... Seems we went round in the same circles.. As much as an auto seemed like a must. The RS4 is such a different machine. I could see me keeping this till the day i die. Eventually having it as a weekend/track car.. Supercharger anyone... smile

Off to Honda to get the Mrs in a CDTI Type S, so will sneak into the BM garage next door and hopefully have a drive of a 6..

How come you didnt go for the RS tigerkoi? Was it Fault wise?

Ahhhhh Those Letters.. AMG... Scares me a little too much.

Mainly down to maintanence. Ive herd AMGs are very expensive to run.. Not that a V8 RS4 or 650i wont be... But 40k is a stretch too...

Im gonna sneak out the back door over to the audi subsection...

Cheers for all your advise guys,

Lol, I asked about an Auto, RWD, BMW and end up swaying to a AWD, Manual, Audi..

Ez G-Man

These past two weeks have been a rollercoaster car wise..

Been to look at some RS4s then S5s. Was sold on a RS4, but the DRC issue just bugs me on such an expensive car. S5 is just too common already and it just doesnt really stand out compared to a s-line model.

I then decided a 07 Sti was looking like alot of car for 12k. Could be fun to have one for a year.. But after looking at the audi`s and BMs i was only in the STI for 2 mins before i knew it wasnt the right move,

So im back to a 645i or 335i now, can get both for under 20k. More pennies for that GTR Fund.. lol

Although between the GTR and R8 id be torn... Such differnt cars, but i think the GTRs power sways it for me, and the tuneability... yum..

I wish this credit crunch didnt make me act all sensible or i think id be in the nissan garrage now tbh. and guys.. please dont say just do it.. lol

I have 645 ci (2005) auto since sept 08. Great car auto box is fine car still makes me smile on country lanes when you floor it with the windows down. Auto box is smooth rarely use manual mode except in recent snow with traction control off. Car is very cheap to buy now I paid 20k with 24k miles back in sept. Best to buy from dealer as this car needs its warranty. Servicing costs very low compared with Audi. Also note Audi are great until 3 yrs old then they become very expensive to keep. Note run flat tires around 300 quid per corner but worth it if you get blowout at at 80 on the motorway! will keep this car for another 2 years then hopefully M3 Saloon DCT will be in my price range!

Sounds like you got a good price there for a low milage car there. Did you get it from a dealer?

As you mentioned giving it a blast, How chuckable is the car? Im in a R32 at the minute, which being small and 4wd is very easy to handle and chuck about. Obviously the 6 is a much bigger car, and im not buying it to chuck it about at all.. id just like to know, on that odd occaison ill be down the lanes its not going to....

A. KILL ME
B. Disapoint me

Im only 27 and do wonder if im going GT too early..

EDIT:

After another lunch break ive wondered back up the scale.. to my most upper limit, and id keep this for a good 4/5 years.. is..... Actualy ticks all my boxes, if i can service it and maintain for 1400 a year id go there.... i think...

Thoughts? Should be reliable as its a VW.... he he.....

So are you glad you changed upto a 645i?. I bet power delivery is different, but id of thought the 645i will walk an sti after 80mph.

Would be really intrested in your thoughts on that one...

Seems 645i`s and 650s are selling well. Stock is well down on the BMW site, and the cars seem to of inched up by a coupe of grand.
