In the latest issue of Total BMW there is a feature on this rarest of creatures and the featured car is no less special by virtue of it's unique Estoril blue paintowrk.

This 6.0 litre, V12 corker created 430bhp and slighlty more imperial torque with a final lollop resting at just over 180mph.

The interior is simply perfect and the external proportions cued by Zeus himself: it is simply delicious to behold.

I want one.

There's one for sale at the moment. It's done 34000 miles and is still under BMW warranty, all for only £25k! Oh for £25k...

Oh joy - I've seen this car before - they are such a lot of (very special) car for the money.

This whole Alpina 'thing' is growing on me...

Have to say, from an admittedly biased perspective, that I think the E38 seven is one of the best looking cars to come out of BMW, period. Very subtle, very svelte, but with just enough sheer size and aggression to make you look twice... And yes, the interior first class!

I agree about the E38 - the Sport versions look fantastic in an understated but "get the hell out of my way" style. The newer '7' is a complete dogs dinner by comparison.

Not so sure about the colour of that second Alpina - that's a *lot* of purple...

Can I just say, as the lucky git allowed to drive this car and write about it, that it's a totally amazing piece of kit. Richard, the owner, has been offered some seriously silly money for it and isn't even slightly tempted to part company with it - and quite right too.

If you ever get the chance to own or even drive one of these monsters, take it, enjoy it and tell your grandchildren about it. Amazing.

What a gorgeous car.

What a shame that the idiot who took the pictures didn't take any that were actually in focus.

Love it.

I haven't even seen a copy of the mag yet (distribution cock-up, apparently) so I can't comment on the quality of focus. However, I'm working with Dan at the weekend so I'll pass on your compliments!

Kevin,

If there's any way your man could allow some more, select photos of the car to be posted here, I'm sure he would receive a suitably fawning clique of drooling acolytes!

I didn't feel Total BMW did full justice to the car - too many 'arty' angles.

Cheers, DeR.

Oh dear, I best keep my ol' manufacturer away from this topic...

There should really be legislation against incepting such handsome old leviathans such as this.
