First off. Gutted.

Going round an island, literally no more then 5mph, front end slipped on diesel, had a slide along tarmac with the bike in front of me. Im fine, may have a bruise on my hip, but thats it.

Bike (suzuki SV650 2007) hit kerb, gone down the insurance route, i hope i have done the right thing. I was in two minds as its looks repairable, but going to be expensive frown As much as i am p*ssed off, i cant really say i could have done anything different, it was a small patch of diesel, clear as day once the sun came out and i could see it, unless i had been upright over it i was always going to have slipped.

Damage - lower fairing cracked and scratched, exhaust 3-1 pipe dented, main exhaust scratched and snapped at join with 3-1. Rear Brake lever snapped, bar end scratched, top cowl scratched by light lens, rear cowl cracked. Here is the biggy - where the 3-1 mounts to the frame just before the silencer, the mount has cracked. This must have hit the floor / kerb and taken a big impact.

so...now got to hope i get a decent pay out and decide what to replace it with :-(

Gutted for you mate. Roads are extra bad with heavy storms in the summer. Too many bloody derfs on the road for my liking (and... well... people!)

Important thing is you're here to complain about it! smile

Bikes can be fixed/replaced.

Get back in the saddle ASAP though...

Once it had stopped raining i could see exactly where it had happened...

The patch was larger but the rain washed it away as i watched. Just bad luck and bad timing...

you can see my grinding marks across the roundabout on this one frown

Isn't there a group who deal with these sorts of things....and deal with compensation?

Anyone? I'm sure there have been topics on this before.

MIB? http://www.mib.org.uk/

Gutted for you mate, it's a rubbish thing to happen. I'm working in leeds atm, coming out of the city in the wet terrifies me as the sheer amount of diesel you can see glistening on the top of the water waiting to catch you out is rediculous.

Bad luck! The only really important thing though is that you walked away!

Thanks for this, will look into it. Informed police and council in the hope it doesnt happen to anyone else - all it takes is another shower to have someone down.

I was lucky so i keep being told by the Mrs! Probably going to go on the 125 tomorrow as i keep reliving it and its playing on my mind, need to try and get it out my system!!

I really hope its not a write off!!

Yep, I've heard of other bikers getting payouts from the MIB when they've crashed on diesel.

Sorry to hear of this accident; did you smell or see anything or was it just instant wipe out?

Good luck with your claim, you never know, the bike might turn out to be repairable rather than bin your NCB...

Raining too heavy to have seen or smelled it, i crossed in a line a of traffic behind a car, about 7-8 yards behind, just slipped off simple as that. Front end was gone before i knew what happened, scary - at least if you over cook it you can give yourself a bking...not sure that applies here. I will just be scared sh*tless at every island in the rain!!! I dont see why it should stop me, but i will think twice if its heaving down.

Git in the car behind didnt stop, just slowed to watch me slide across the road, thanks.......

Repair company just written the bike off !!!

I am considering buying back at salvage and using as a commuter - any advice?? Would you buy it back?

The bike is here with me...Waiting for a settlement figure...

If it's mechanically straight then definitely buy it back if you have the option [you don't always] ... even if you buy it back and ride it straight to your local crash damage salvage place you'll make money. No brainer!

Gutted for you mate. I was on my way home from a mates last night and one of the islands (that I would take at 40+ in the dry) was absolutely covered in diesel. There was a whole lane of the island just soaked in it. Normally I wonder what people mean when they say they can feel the grip but I could feel there was none what so ever over the diesel. Also went down a road that's got a temporary surface on it and I could feel somehow that there was no grip so put my foot on the road to feel and I could of stood up off the bike with both feet on the floor at 30 and just slid along. Wouldn't fancy doing an emergency stop on that surface.

It's so unpredictable. Normally I take it pretty steady on roundabout in the wet because you never know. Diesel doesn't seem so bad anywhere else and the only problems I've ever had (although stayed upright) were on roundabouts (and garage forecourts).

OP: Hope you get it sorted soon.

Oh well, fingers crossed they're just busy or need a week or so to evaluate the claim. Can't hurt eh?
