Personally I think a two year prison term for this is ludicrous. Honestly, how many of us haven't driven fast, really fast, from time to time? I've seen 140mph on a handful of occasions (on private runways, of course...) as have most of my mates. I have been passenger in a car at near 170. I received a 30 day ban as an inexperienced 19 year old for 108 in a 70, and I'm still here, and have never killed anyone.
Yes, the speeds he filmed are downright silly, yes, he was a plank to film them, this doesn't mean he deserves to be locked up for 20 hours a day for the next 365 days.
I would suggest more apt would be 200 hours community service, a one year ban, and a £500 fine. Ignoring all else imprisoning him shall likely cost the state £50K.

Its not that you didnt kill anyone, it the probability of an incident occuring due to your speed. We can all argue till doomsday what "We" think is safe and what is not safe, due to the time, road, weather etc etc etc. But I am sure we all know the consequences of ignoring limits etc. At twice the speed limit is taking the piss, and crosing those white lines, which are there for a reason.I am only guessing that the severity of the sentence may have been based on all the evidence from his web cam, which we dont have access to.
Anyway I am glad your safe and sound, and may the discusion continue to infinity....... which it will
Opinions about how a litre sportsbike can safely operate at 150mph+ are irrelevant imho...
They are only as safe or dangerous as the rider in control of them.
Anyone can get a modern sportsbike to 150 on a public road but variables like traffic, pedestrians, loose surfaces and manhole covers mean that doing sustained speeds for long distances won't end well!
No question this man would have got off lightly had he not incriminated himself with multiple misdemeanours on the headcam...

If it was a one off offence then no doubt a single count of dangerous driving is min 12 month ban and 30 hours community service
...but it wasn't. The guy had previous and was in the habit of filming himself doing it. On this trip they had enough evidence for 4 incidents of DD to be considered by the court, hence they had to do something worse than "just" a ban and make an example of him
If you think its safe to do 150mph on occasion where you find a nice stretch of road with no junctions, no-one else around, then sure go for it, its really easy to do
....but dont film yourself doing in less than ideal places, post it on the internet and then wonder why you get nicked

Guess how many wheels...

Failing to stop, 90mph police chase through a 30 limit (Soundwell in Bristol), no licence, no insurance, assault and no licence or insurance on a separate occasion, "a long list of previous driving convictions".
Six months gaol.

I wish we'd cut out spouting bks like this. A lot of the time I can't fathom why a solid white line is there, certainly ain't for safety.Silver993tt said:

Quite a few seem to be. I could post up lots of street view links where the painters have obviously got it wrong. There is one on the a22 with perfect visibility no junctions etc which delays a safe overtake by 100m for no reason.
Well, we're obviously just too darn stupid to appreciate that these mysteriously placed lines are actually keeping us alive.anonymous said:

Doesn't necessarily mean there is either though, just because some pencil-neck decides where the line should be doesn't make it right.I can think of many around here that aren't necessary and many more that really aren't 'applicable' to a bike.
Consider also that the same authority deciding on the lines are also setting new, revised (downwards, for your safety) speed limits, that are more often than not just silly...

Not applicable to a bike, interesting, so only apply to "others". Example?I can think of many around here that aren't necessary and many more that really aren't 'applicable' to a bike. ..
