Rossi to Yamaha, confirmed today
Discussion
Well, there will be another day/week/month of "yeah, but" and "no, but" on here as a result of the announcement, but I'll just say that for me, I think this is great news, and I applaud Rossi's ability to stand up and say "ok, i couldn't sort it, I'm going to try elsewhere". And given how much money he's rumoured to have walked away from, (not that he needs it), shows where his real interest/intent/heart lies.
Does seem to cast a shadow over Cal, which is a shame - he seems to have the measure of GP more than certain other people who tried to cross over, and he needs to be given more of a chance to mature into it, IMO.
Anyone want to photoshop Rossi back into alien form?

Sad to see Rossi go, I really hoped he and Duc would be able to sort it out and get Duc at least some more podiums in 2013. But alas, he has made his choice and I can't wait to see what results he can bring on the Yam if those rumours are correct.
Now, Cal or Dovi on a Duc? I think Dovi's got that one.

And Yam has confirmed: http://motomatters.com/press_release/2012/08/10/of...
It is with great pleasure that Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd confirms the signing of Valentino Rossi to ride for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team for 2013 and 2014.

Cal's funked now then . . .
Can't see Herve having two brits, so if Dovi goes to Ducati as is rumoured Cal will be looking at CRTThe Gresini bike has no one booked on it currently, struggling to see Hervé with 2 Brits as well, but you never know . .. Iannone, Redding and others looking to get a ride of course.
So the announcements over the next few days will start to settle everything down.

Why not? He had two Texans at one point.
Spies was paid for by Yamaha and Edwards was parts tester par excellence, current American sponsor (deWalt), low profile of motorcycling in the UK, having Bradley means he might want more experienced head. I'm only guessing.ETA: I like Cal, I'm a fan.

Gotta agree the situation with the Texans was very different . . . In the days of the Rookie rule, the factories used the satellite teams to harbour riders they considered for their factory squad, Spies as highlighted has always been contracted direct to Yamaha who paid the bill.
Considering the Cal options, maybe Ducati will take a gamble, but I can't see Phillip Morris being happy with a Brit who hasn't hit a podium yet and can throw it away from promising positions on occassions . .
