So would I stand out like a sore thumb doing a 2 minute and just under?
No, and it would probably drag you on a bit having no traffic and people overtaking you. Got to make the jump some time, if you're finding you're getting held up in inters, it's time to move up.moanthebairns said:

whats a fast group time around Donnie? I was doing 2 minutes my last time there with heavy traffic.
I'd say around 1:50. this thread is getting a bit daft though. A trackday is a trackday, not a race. You can go in any group, but if you are well out of your depth / too fast then you will be pulled out of the group with no guarantee (except Fast where there is no "too fast") of getting into the other groups if the day is sold out.

Fag packet maths says you would only be lapped the once by the fast boys punching in a consistent 1:50 so I wouldn't worry about that.
It doesn't work like that. Most will be doing sub 1:50, plenty will be doing low 1:40s and the odd superstar in the 1:30sLoonR1 said:

I'm only quoting you on 1:50's but it appears you were talking about oulton anyway. Like I said, fag packet maths. I agree that it's getting a bit "serious" in here though

Oulton: If you can do consistent sub 2 min laps then you're good enough for fast group. If you're just scraping it then you'll have a rough ride in the early season as racers practice, but it'll be easier after mid June when all the series will have visited. I agree that it's getting a bit "serious" in here though
Donington: as above, but at 1:55 ideally or just below.
In all cases though, it is critical that you hold a steady line and stick with it. On this video at 9:50 I get pushed out onto the grass by someone unnecessarily moving around trying to use all,the track when his speed didn't need it. That is what is guaranteed to piss fast group riders off. If you ride sensibly then they will get past you easily. Do not try and fight them, or worse block them.

Can't get on at oulton, there are 7 places left in novice and they won't let me and Aky in that group
The day is over subscribed so no chance of moving up
Oh heck, I haven't booked on yet, don't mind another session in novice though so will see if there are any left in the morning. The day is over subscribed so no chance of moving up
Could do with a nice dry day after the washout that was Anglesey.
