I went for an RG500 as first road bike but found it too much of a handful, dropped back to an RGV250 then went upto to a 750 once I had gotten used to it. I think its really about being comfortable and learning to ride within your limits, no one make you go flat out everywhere. I have seen newbies on 1000's and been ok, conversly I have seen experienced people bin smaller bikes. I would say however what is your experience on the 125? A 600 in the dry is a handful for a new rider, in the wet downright lethal if you dont know the braking and cornering ability of the bike especially on a race track with other bikes coming at you potentially 50+ mph faster

just take it easy, it ain't a race, just an opportunity to ride in the wheeltracks of Rossi, Stoner etc

Just a word of warning - easy on the throttle fella. If you haven't ridden a 6 before you will st yourself.

It took me 3 months on the Hornet before I was happy cracking the throttle wide open in 1st and 2nd - and I'm a riding GOD! Well, I say god, but I'd had 4 months on a 500 single SM machine, and plenty of time on 2 stroke crossers.

Just be careful at first.

Unfortunately but luckily all the same I had to change the date from the 19th of August to the 16th of September as the bike was completely ready, my mate who I am going with had to work and as it happens I never seen rain that hard that day anyway, so lucky escape and I’ll be prepared for the 16th and let you know!

Cheers

Is there any chance you can get out on a 600/larger capacity bike of some sort before then? I would really recommend it...even if only hiring a bike for a day. I remember (well, vaguely hehe) what it was like going from a 125 to a 500 in my DAS, I can only imagine what it would be like going to a 600 sports bike!

That was lucky to catch it, but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to DIE because you were cranked over and put too much power on too soon

Get yourself booked on one.

I still remember my first which was at Lydden. The thing I remember the most about the day was the differece in confidence that I had in my tyres from the start of the first session to the last.

Just to let everybody know that I did the track day on Tuesday (16/09/08) at Donnington on my mates 636 (first go of a big bike) and it was excellent, couldn’t of gone any better. Improving every session, more confidence, smoother, faster. 130+mph under the bridge on the back straight with the front wheel in the air was one of the best feelings ever. Knee down in quite a few places. Would highly recommend No Limits Track Days there very good. Free tea coffee all day, good organisation can’t fault it! No hassle with signing on or briefing, I don’t even have a bike licence, I have a provisional!

Cheers

Can you even get on track days without a full licence? All the car trackdays I've done required a licence.

Then again, if I had the choice of being good or being lucky, I'd be lucky smile

I’m glad to hear you had a good day.

I am very surprised that you were allowed onto the track when you didn’t hold a full license! That bit worries me! yikes

I'm sure I remember an interview some years back with a WSB rider who was saying he doesn't have a licence and has never ridden a bike on the road.
