It does make you wonder…??

Stoner is only young. I really can’t see him being content in retirement, watching his contemporaries on the telly on a Sunday afternoon
I don't think "content" is in Stoner's vocabulary tongue out More likely to be "grumbling because the broadcasters are letting other people watch the show instead of letting me have the entire airwaves to myself" biglaugh

Don't start, you lot, I'm just joshing rolleyes

Let me clarify. I am delighted as a MotoGP fan that Rossi is going to hopefully be more competitive particulary given we are losing Stoner.

I have said many times Stoner is a massively talented rider and someone who i love to watch wrestling bikes around the track. For me, the more 'aliens' in MotoGP the better.

Sounds like you're a bit too quick to see the negative in people's Stoner related posts. Or maybe a bit anti-Rossi?
Great a true fan and i aplogise unreservedly for overly prompt reaction, you're i do find the negative in most of the Stoner post inceasingly boring and i enjoy having a 'pop' back.

That's made up. There was no premier class bike racing before Rossi invented it.

Bike racing didn't exist even before Rossi I understand, he created it, on the 8th day hehe

Agreed, but who will Yamaha favour for the development direction, could cause some dabtes in the garage . . how different are their set ups and who will win the direction debate for development...
Who's bringing the big money wink.
Any news anywhere on sponsorship for Yamaha, Lorenzo didn't attract any it seems, so is there money coming with Rossi in sponsorship as if the stories are true his salary will be a lot lower than it was at Ducati .. .

You wonder if the move (& sponsorship) is at all related to the story circulating a while back about Phillip Morris' Motorsport money man basically talking to Ducati/Audi (?) saying "I'm putting our money behind a rider on a competitive bike" ??

Also, any news on crew etc ? Jeremy Burgess/Alex Briggs etc.

Burgess is retiring. And heard somewhere that Yamaha will be sticking with the crew they have. Ben spies crew I guess. Unsure though.

I'll never understand why people are HAPPY for Stoner to leave or why they think he has no personality. I can undersatnd if one isn't a fan but he's a very exciting rider, its not his fault he was so far ahead of the other riders sometimes. What do ppl want him to do? SLow down? Rossi certainly didnt when he used to clear off from the back in the mid 2000s.

And he may not have the same light-hearted personality as Rossi but to say he has no personality at all or is boring is insane. I can understand if someone said that about Pedrosa but "your ambition outweighed your talent"-Stoner? Slow-clap Stoner?????

Stoner has been a brilliant addition to MotoGP and for me he'll be sorely missed, not just for his riding but for his off-track battles with Rossi a la Biaggi (minus the fisticuffs of course).

And im a blinkered Rossi fan (so far only have a The Doctor keychain, but one day will have a rep of his lid and leathers!)

Re his personality could it be because he makes Andy Murray's post match interviews look like stand up comedy?

Stoner is great on the track but his media management skills are a bit lacking.

Cross out the 6 and you'll have a Dovisioso Ducati shirt well in advance of the masses.

I'm predicting a yamaha 1-2 next year with the doctor adding another title. It's a shame stoner is leaving as he obviously has talent (albeit no charisma/personality etc) but he bottled it, simply not man enough to continue or try and become the goat. the show must (and will) go on in 2013 and I expect fireworks in the yam garage!

Cant wait

oh ?

"With the last of his successes Lawson became the first rider in the history of the sport to win the title with two different manufacturers in back-to-back seasons."

Ago did it in the 350cc class when he switched from MV to Yamaha, won the title and the 1st race.
didnt do too badly on the 500cc bikes to and won the title on both MV and Yamaha, in the good old days of riding in two championships during the year!

What a load of bks. Stoner is quitting for all sorts of reasons, but "bottled it"? Have you seen him riding that Honda, if that's "bottling it" then I hope I bottle it and can only ride like him.

Plus it must have actually taken a lot of bottle to turn your back on a sport that you excel at. Yes, he has a lot of money now but is still ridiculously young with a lot of life left so why not take time out, newly married, kid.

Its taken balls to do what he has done.

For me,i would absolutely love it If Ducati made Stoner an offer he couldn't refuse. I fancy Rossi to finish ahead of Lorenzo next season, I really do. Add to that Cal going somewhere competitive and it all makes for a good season.....much better than this years offerings.

Any news on Hayden?

But would you agree that his 'issues' with Rossi have made for a more entertaining few yrs for MotoGP fans?

And, do ANY of the motoGP racers other than Rossi make for good or interesting interviews? Not Pedrosa, not Lorenzo, not Dovizioso, not Hayden even. Simoncelli RIP, yes. Colin Edwards yes sometimes but sometimes I think that certain fans have an over-idealized view of Rossi that they then compare other racers to. And the thing is that not even Rossi himself can compare to that standard let alone other racers. Im not talking racing here, im talking the 'other' stuff. Yes it was hilarious when Rossi said "its like when man hasn't made sex for a long time" when he finally got on the podium/won a few years ago. And his portapotty stunt was genuinely funny, whereas Lorenzo's jumping into the lake seemed a bit put-on and disingenuous (of course I could be wrong). But how many times has Rossi done that? 5? 10? Maybe 20? And how many races has be been in? 100s probably by now.

Sometimes I feel like Stoner is unfairly cast as the villain and that people exaggerate aspects of his personality that are just as present in other people (Lorenzo and Pedrosa have also been tw@ts when it comes to fairing-bashing racing for example, but they seem to escape a lot of the criticism that Stoner gets for the same comments).

Anyway, I'm going to stop defending that tw@t Stoner (he's only a tw@t for leaving imo, though its obviously his right to do so) and hop back on the Rossi bandwagon I've been on since the late 90s and say that he has a decent shot at the championship next year. Was just telling my F1-fanatic cousin about the news and lamenting that Rossi's too old now probably, and that Lorenzo has him beat. But then he gently reminded me that people thought that Hamilton had the measure of Button and that Button was over the hill, and he proved everybody wrong. Same thing with Vettel v. Webber to a slightly lesser degree. Hell - Webber's beating Vettel on points this year and he's a full 10 years older. Perhaps in bike racing age matters more, or at least in MGP but surely if any 33 yr old ever has a chance to win the MGP championship, its Rossi!

Sad that he's not on a Honda though, as then I'd probably bet £1000 that he'd win it all

I would class Lorenzo as better than Rossi but, Rossi next year will be massively fired up and we cannot rule out how much that will affect him/influence him.
