Also, noob question...is it possible to get the bike onto a paddock stand on your own? (assuming side stand removed)
Yes, as long as it's close to you. Put the paddock stand in its place before you take the bike off the trailer/vanTry it a few times with the stand down and from the other side, so at least you won't drop it if the bike gets away from you
I've cancelled Donington next thursday, new bike looming and I'm unsure if I'll still have the 7R to do it on.
Typically the weather looks pretty good.
Oh well, I'll book another one for when its a bit warmer and I've got used to the new bike.
Have fun all that have trackdays in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be there on my new to me gsxr750 track bike with a mate on an F4 MV.
Come say hi

Bugger, only just saw this. Did you have a good day, what group were you running? Definitely think the fast group was a bit too quick for me so back to inters for a while! That and my bike was handling funny, which I later found out was the front mudguard caching on the front tyre Come say hi

If proper wets I'd guess not - Been round in the wet in a car on road tyres and then a car on race wets - night and day. Should be similar for bikes I guess. If it's bucketing, there are a few places that seem to form rivers. Exit of hollywood, and out of starkeys into mcleans being two that stick in my mind.

To make matters worse this week, it's been dry for a while, so any residue of aviation fuel (oil) that's on the circuit won't have been washed off with days of rain, so could be an ice rink. Oh well, it is what it is. I'll just have to be extra careful for a few laps to get a hang of the grip levelsgraeme4130 said:

The fuel dump theory does sound plausible though, but like I say, might be just a well fitting rumour, and it might just have a surface that doesn't work well in the wet in a car at least

The dump of fuel may be a thing of legends, but having done 15 or so track days there in cars over the years, so I can say with some certainty that it's one of the slipperiest tracks in the wet around, and the levels of grip in the wet are atrocious at best (in a car anyway)

All those 15 trackdays in a car were in the wet too?The fuel dump theory does sound plausible though, but like I say, might be just a well fitting rumour, and it might just have a surface that doesn't work well in the wet in a car at least
Here's a clip of Kiyonari doing a 1:42 on a soaking wet Donington several years ago. He will have the throttle wide open part way round a corner.
http://youtu.be/H93kPnDQEqA
He's sliding it all over through choice and the only time he's out of control is when he overcooks it backing it into the final hairpin. I doubt you got anywhere near his 1:42 in your car and you're unlikely to be anywhere near that 1:42 on the hottest of hot dry days on a trackday. The throttle will be open wider on his bike part way through the exit of a corner, than yours on the straight. If he can do that, then there is little issue with Donington being slippy in the wet.
