I'm a bit of a fair weather biker, & my commute is only 6 miles, even if I take the scenic route! However, I do around 8k miles PA. Alpinestars ankle high boots are around 4 years old & still OK.
Off topic: I'm looking for some enduro/adventure boots which would be OK for light off-roading/green laning. not much mud involved & probably not when its raining (I'm old & brittle).... I've looked at Alpinestars Tech 1 & also these, which may not provide enough protection: https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...
Bear in mind that you may not be able to change gear on a road bike with enduro boots, as I found out to my cost one day.

SIDI B2 Goretex...

8 yrs old ... nearly 200,000 miles ... still going strong!

(re-soled once)
My first pair lasted a couple of years and then some stitching failed on the left boot (foot area), I glued the goretex layer back down with windscreen goop (pliable) and they still work fine. I bought a fresh set a year ago but as these still don't leak in general use I've kept using them. Used all year round, circa 10/12k across three bikes.

Daytona will re-sole any of their boots for way less than the price of a new pair. Just return it to the selling dealer who will arrange the repairs.

Worth thinking about before buying abroad in preference to an official UK retailer (who will probably match the price anyway).

SS7
The last time I asked about this the price was about £160. I'd expect it's even more now.
That will have been for additional work. I'm looking at a customer invoice for a simple re-sole from last month:£95-. Not bad when the list for a Travel Star is £400-.

Boots were ~5 years old and used for commuting.

Well here are my TXC XFives after 12 months, daily usage. 13 miles each way, heavy traffic (lots of lights to stop at) for context OP.

I've never so much as touched them with any leather treatment. Goretex still works perfectly and soles a little worn where the pegs rock against the middle but plenty of life left.

I really rate these boots, honestly they are some of the most comfortable shoes I own!

A question for commuters please. How long would you expect your boots to last?

I'm having a bit of a discussion with a brand supplier about the state of mine after 9 months use. I ride 25 miles each way every day in all weathers but my commute is mostly open road rather than in town so I don't have to put my feet down too regularly. Oddly, the brake boot is completely worn out whereas the gear boot that gets more use isn't.

I am happy to accept fair wear and tear. One would expect scratches etc with regular use but I can't see that the wear in the images as acceptable for only 9 months use.

Your opinions would be appreciated.....

Too much dangling going on on the commute OP? wink

That is extremely helpful as a like for like comparison.

Cheers

Daytona Roadstar GTX's, nearly nine years old, 3 crashes, 50/60k miles and never washed... I should really get round to that! Bottoms are fairly worn as I've had to walk quite a way in them after dropping bikes off to the shop and walking 3 miles home etc. Comfy as anything, still waterproof. Top stuff.

I love these boots so much I went to the trouble of taking pics for this thread. Honestly the best gear purchase of my life.

Currently commuting on Spada boots and they are bursting at stitching already. Only used them last winter and this winter.
My spade boots were shocking. Good clothing, crap boots!
