RE: Craig Jones: 1985-2008

A sad sad loss.... particularly as he was from the same part of the world as me and shared the same name!
A few years back I moved into a new street and kept myself to myself.... working away a lot of the time. I've always been into fast cars and bikes and a biker down the street thought 'THE Craig Jones' had moved in. Our paths never crossed until one time I was down the local and his wife came up and congratulated me on a great ride at Oulton! As the truth emerged she told me how her husband had been telling all the guys at work about his new neighbour and even "kept a scrap book".
RIP Craig you will be missed.

I was there on Sunday, he was riding his wheels off. The accident looked like a fast lowside, it would hurt but I've seen loads of them at clearways. I understand that Pitt hit him as he went down, not his fault there was only a few feet between them. A great sadness though to see such a young life lost as well as such a great talent. I must say it really shook me up. My heart goes out to those that knew and loved him.
So incredibly sad. A very talented young rider who surely had a great future. So many times we see the guys come off and bounce back up we forget just how dangerous it is.
Having watched the race I don't believe I saw any contact with Pitt's bike, I could be wrong though.
I know what is feels like to lose loved ones and my sincere sypathies go to those who knew and loved Craig.

I'm still in complete and utter shock from reading this tragic news.
I became aware of his exploits watching Eurosports coverage over the last year or so and his talent was there for all to see, he had such a bright future ahead of him.
At first glance the accident appeared so innocuous and early news failed to purvey the threat to his life, all of which makes the news of his death so much harder to comprehend... much as it was when Ronnie Peterson died after the Monza crash in 1978.
He will be a great loss to the British bike racing scene but the memory will live long.
R.I.P. Craig Jones

I've only recently reappraised my love of bikes, and although i didn't know Craig, seeing this made me cry. Having only got back into two-wheeled racing in the last couple of years, to see someone who was so obviously an incredibly talented and, from what everyone who knew Craig has said, such a nice person has really moved me beyond words.
I'm just glad that he went doing what he loved most.
As many have said, my thoughts are with Craig's family, and also with Andrew Pitt. There's nothing he could have done, although I imagine that's scant consolation.
RIP Craig.

A damn shame. Heard it wasnt a particularly bad crash ie, didnt hit anyone or anything, out of clearways and high-sided, more the severity of the impact?
Unfortunately, Pitt was riding right behind him and caught him. Hope the poor guy doesn't blame himself.DC
