Nice philosophy Rach. I'm registered for Tashkent next year with some mad bird who's a bigger petrol head than me.
I NEED to go on another trip, had a couple of emails from interested people but whether they'll stay committed is another thing.Anyway your turn to show us some pics

Hey buddy! I know, it doesn't feel it I really want to go somewhere again, 2 wheels is very tempting! I got me a bike recently - planning a trip out somewhere weird pretty soon a two wheels - four was too easy!
Need to find something suitable for a short arse to go off roading

DO IT!!! Those pics brought back a load of memories for me, I rode a KTM from here to Oz, across Europe, down through Iran, Pakistan and India and then across through SE Asia etc. You really should do it, not hard and just an awesome laugh!! Met so many people who are now really good mates, loads of scraps but worth so much more than a day in the office!
Next project is a sidecar run from here to Siberia and then down to North africa and back up through southern Europe. Going to do the Elephant Rally early next year as prep if anyone fancies a run there!
Yep, chucked in everything, sold everything, got on the bike and went!
From Istanbul onwards there were so many overlanders on the road that speaking to people etc wasnt a problem and everytime I stopped there was normally a crowd of people to chat too!!
Didnt have any sat nav nonsense, just a map and a compass and kept going east!! Got across Iran though a mixture of lonely planet sketch maps and a compass, although I broke down in there and had to spend an extra couple of weeks fixing the bike... Its an amazing country!
Now back at work and even though its my own business and its going really well etc I get huge urges to do it again, hence the next trip. I think once you have the bug you have it and it never really goes away... No point fighting it!!!

Twit, I've fancied riding to Istanbul for years. A friend bought a Vincent a few years ago. It had only had two owners since 1953. Through the VOC friend tracked down the first owner who is alive and living in Scotland. When he got to speak to him the bloke told of his first long journey the first year he bought the Vinny. Istanbul and back. Can you imagine that in 53. Must have been a right proper adventure back then given the roads and route taken.
How did you get on crossing Iran? Did you need carnett's etc for various countries? And how about visa's? Did you throw much prep into the journey or really did just fill a bag and head west on a bike, coz that's the way I've always fancied it. The paper trail endeavour and forward planning has always put me off? Wouldn't it be great just to fill up and keep going. Please tell us more.
