Hi all,

Got my first track day on Tuesday at Donnington Park, I’ll be using my mates ZX6R 636, it’ll also be a first proper ride on a big bike, ridden a GSXR 1000 before but only a trundle around a car park and previous to this I have had an Aprilia RS 125 and few crossers which I also did a few races on.
Just wanted any tips or advice or to see if anyone else will be going along?

Many Thanks.
I was into bikes for a few years and my one and only track day on a bike was at Donnington; Fantastic track and I felt at home fairly quickly and was very happy going round in circles until my oil filler cap cam of and drenched the R/H side of the rear tyre with a fair old bit of fully synthetic and the outcome? A 15' high side at the Fogarty Esse's, £650 worth of damage and out cold for 10 mins. then off to the Hospital for a check up. Not trying to put you off, but just to say, CHECK YOUR BIKE before each session, wink you know it makes sense yes, have a good day out thumbup
Sorry, I only read the first few posts and it would seem that I am a little to late to wish you well but hay ho 'eh hehe

I checked before booking with “No Limits” you don’t need a licence or ACU for Donnington its only the “Motorsport Vision” circuits you need one for.

Here is a few pics of the day:

In a van with all the gear in. Very few, if any people who were there rode to the event.

He was a disabled guy there, there's one leg on each side of the bike he presses a button when he wants them to come down to use as stabilizers (only when stopping). He got lifted of his bike straight into his wheelchair! Full respect to him, still out there having it!

Cant believe they let people on a trackday with no experience on a bike what so ever, that is scary.

I will now never book a trackday with that company.

It is a little frightening, but I wouldn't mind betting he's slipped through the net, the organisers being a little negligent in checking.

Focussed won't even allow restricted licence holders on. Even racers that they know have to show their full or ACU licence. It covers their backs.

The days i have done with companies other than Focused have worried me, i must say. My mate was clipped at the last one (her first) and i was being overtaken on the sighting laps. "control tower cameras", "we'll be watching"? My arse.

somehow i cant see a complete novice getting his knee down and wheeling at 130+ i dont think it would be possible for anyone to get a 130 mph wheelie out of a 636,could be wrong tho smile

It was the front wheel lifting/rising up under the bridge on the back straight and anyone who knows it, you'll be doing 130mph+.
Also I haven’t had no experience if you look at the original post I have explained what experience I have had. So what anyway novice track day surely the best place to learn. Sorry too many fun police on here.

If you check back on my previous posts you will see that the last thing I am is the fun police. Doing a track day on a bike that is "above" your previous performance experience level is one thing but riding a bike that you are not licensed to ride on the road is something very different (in my book anyway!) There is having fun and there is being stupid and, for me, what you did falls into the second category.

I didn’t think you had but you appear to have ridden on the track on a bike that you are not licensed to ride on the road. I assume you don’t have a race license thus you have ridden a bike on the track that you hold no license for – anywhere! You have not had to show to anyone that you have even the basic skill level to be able to handle this machine. To me that is stupid!

The road has absolutely nothing to do with any of it. Obviously Donningotn and No limits think it’s ok, I think they may know what they’re talking about. I haven’t slipped through any net to get on the track I enquired about the necessary requirements first, I haven’t done anything wrong and as it happens yes I can handle the machine and have proved it. Not everything this day in age has to be wrapped up in cotton wool and ruled by the safety Nazi’s.
