A picture a day....biker banter (Vol 4)
Discussion
After months of problems my ninja is back together. Carbs done, cam gaskets changed, plugs leads and filters, oil, new headers, new chain and sprockets, suspension rebuilt.
Acfd and washed today then put back together just needs an Mot and tax then I might get to do more than 200 miles on it.

That bridge looks like something out of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, where is it?
It's in West Montrose in Ontario. It's a pretty rural Mennonite area, so on a Sunday it's purely horses and buggies going through it for about an hour as they leave church, feels like you've gone back in time.Bob_Defly said:

Picked this mega low miles (5500), pampered 58 reg Fazer last night for two up & touring duties.
Needs de-blinging somewhat, not entirely to my taste but much money spent on add-ons. The previous owner did 300 miles since he bought it in 2014. He nearly cried when I told him what I wanted it for, not to mention it pouring down moments after I left.
Anyone near a FZ1/R1/R6 to tell me the length of the grips. Urgently want to replace the 'toilet roll tube' thick heated ones immediately - one's loose & the other doesn't work.
Fancied one of those myself end of last year but the budget wouldnt stretch that far, as you say, once the tat has been removed itll look a lot better, should be perfect for your needs.Needs de-blinging somewhat, not entirely to my taste but much money spent on add-ons. Spent Saturday refitting pillion seat/pegs, rewiring standard indicators, removing wheel/tank stickers and paddock stand bobbins. Painted bar ends & fixed rattling chain guard.
Undecided on the carbon belly pan (real CF), not keen on the Carbon Fibre rad shields - don't think they are appropriate for the type of bike, may put standard ones back on and change out the stainless rad cover too.
Any ideas on how to change the colour of the yellow brake hose covers to black? May have to just buy new ones & EBay the yellow ones to a FZ1-N owner?
Got this far before finding throttle cable adjuster under the master cylinder covered in a rubber sleeve - d'oh.

A few weeks ago I was washing my Tuono when it started hissing and smoking from behind the frame, cue me ripping bits off the bike desperately trying to get at the source to work out what the fk was going on.
Couldn't find it but, since then the bike has completely flattened two batteries in just a couple of days when not connected to the trickle charger. So this weekend I decided to get to the bottom of it.
Tested the main circuit at stationary with the engine off and found a steady draw of about 0.25 amps, way too high. After some faffing removing tank, airbox, coils, etc. we found this:
Cabling from the rectifier had been pressed up against a sharp edge of the frame and cut through to short on the frame, must have been like this since I bought the bike last year but cleaning fluid I was using helped to make the short circuit much worse. I think I'm a bit lucky I didn't have a fire!

hats off to you btw. I cleaned one on sunday and i was loosing the will to live, I could have spent all day and not got it spotless
Thank you young sir I know what you mean about cleaning them... pain in the ass. It does help stripping the fairings off a couple times a year to give it a proper deep clean as part of any servicing / other work. Then try and keep on top of it washing every fortnight or so depending on the weather.
It's far from mint anymore, but it still scrubs up well for an old girl.

For a cheap and easy way to sort the brake hoses, I would consider using a black spiral hose cover, something like this?
