I'm weighing up a last minute booking onto Snetterton on Monday, was wondering if anyone off here was going?

I've just booked Silverstone for September but there wasn't anywhere to choose what group you're in, how does that work?

You get asked nearer the time how many days you have done...you can then ask to be put in a certain group. The Silverstone admin is pretty poor though

At snetterton today for my first trackday in nearly 4 years.
It's also my first day not running slicks for the last 12 or so days I have done and I'm struggling after the first session with the S22s moving around a lot! Wear looks OK to my eyes but they seem very prone to a slide which means I don't want to push any harder.

Tyre guy said stick them on warmers which I did but I think they may have got too hot so next session I've put the warmers on but not switched on to try and keep them mildly warm and will see how we go!

I ran S22's at Germany (Ring & GP). They are good all round tyres but definitely a tyre you ride to 8/10th as they do move. I think I ran pressures at about 33 front and 29 rear no warmers. They do ok but I had a good few slides. Fine on lean angle but not getting on the throttle when banked over

You want that grip you need slicks without question

Wonder how S22s would feel back to back with Power GPs?

S22 seems to be the ‘go to’ road/sports tyre, but I really do like the GPs.

Was running S22s on my Gen2 Tuono at Bedford yesterday. what pressures do you use hot/cold?

I tried initially setting the bridgestone recommended 30f 26r cold and then using warmers but this resulted in the tyre becoming way too squidgy so I decided to ditch the warmers after the first session.

I then checked hot pressure at around 35 front and 34 rear and decided to take this down to 34 and 30 and this seemed to be a good compromise. They were still getting a bit slidey after 4 or 5 laps though you can tell they aren't a proper track tyre. They were impressive out of the pits though, could start to push on a bit after only a lap. For the first few laps of the session before they started to go off the main issue was lack of ground clearance so they're plenty grippy when working at their optimum

Last couple times on track not been my usual self

Raced Sunday and was well off my usual pace. Track was heavily watered and then thunderstorms making the track slop first thing

I just couldn't get a flow and found it incredibly tough going on my maico twin shock. I got 3 x wins for 1st overall but racers in other classes which I normally had a scrap with I was away back... Maybe me or just the bike in the conditions

Got a couple of good race starts though

Then Brands GP Tuesday. Arrived to an absolutely packed paddock and rain, thunder and lightening that didn't stop until about 9 followed by further small showers in the morning

Lots of red flags and an early lunch. I stupidly didn't bring wets (because it's June and I thought it would be ok) so got just 3 sessions in the afternoon with the first two both being red flagged and last session start to finish being less than 10 mins

It was just one of those days

I rode crap. Wasn't used to the track, bike felt fast having spent the last few track days on my old 250 so took me a bit getting used to the way it would move on the rear again... And the back part of the track was slippy catching me out couple times

Terrible lines and lack of seat time round there having only been once before couple years ago

I think a clear head is needed and start again

Saw you there Monday...we were in garage 12.

At sign-on they said it was only 15 short of selling out but it seemed very quiet to me.

Good day though despite the early red-flag disruption and oil spill hehe (not mine).

Ah yeh I was in garage 8 so not far away, what were you on?

I went in inters so it was someone in my group that spilt the oil, first couple of sessions I wished I'd gone in advanced but at the end of the day I actually was glad of the reduced pace in inters with my tyre struggles!

Wileman as I remember from years ago takes photos in the worst places at the worst angles!

Im looking at doing a track day this year, its something I've always wanted to do and I turn 30 this year so tempted to do it as a present to myself.

I'm in Scotland so would be looking to do a Novice session at Knockhill, has anyone got any experience of those? I've been riding on the road for 5 years or so now, but have had off-road bikes since i was 14 so very comfortable on bikes and feel like i have quite a good pace on the road.

I've got a Speed Triple i use on the road, but my first road bike was an '03 SV650s which is still gathering dust in the corner of my garage, i already uprated forksprings/oil and the shock for more units suitable for my weight (Im 20+ stone but tall and broad as opposed to having a huge belly). I've got a race suit (more like a hollowed out cow!) and how fussy are they with gloves? I have mid length ones as opposed to full on gauntlets.

I'm assuming the SV would be a better choice, as I can live with throwing it down the road in all honesty, it was never the tidiest bike but perfect for a first road bike. What should I do in regards to tyres (its on sport touring tyres currently) upgrade the brake lines etc?

I was on the current clitoris bike AKA S1000RR biglaugh

https://www.peterwilemanphotography.com/main/detai...

He seems to love and 'outside of the turn' position/angle for some reason, whereas I always think pics from the inside, so you can see where the rider's looking etc. make for better pics...

There were a couple of really quick lads in the advanced group, Alex Olsen being one of them but there were also a couple of guys that definitely shouldn't have been in there and also a couple who's riding may have warranted it but the bike/s certainly didn't.
I know it's a track day and not a race and no-one's timing etc. etc. but the speed differential between a CB500 and anything better suited to the environment is just daft in some cases...rant over...
