Years ago in AMA Superbikes a similar thing happened. Aaron 'Yikes' Yates dropped it at a chicane and it was pretty much the end of his championship. He jumped to his feet, ran to the track, and lay down on the racing line. The race was immediately red flagged. He claimed that there was a slippery substance on the track and that the marshalls should have been waving red/yellow flags. Remarkably, and in an effort to show what a joke AMA was/is, they let him take part in the restarted race. No penalty was ever given to him as far as I am aware.
