I don’t see the attraction of the 1098 myself. Especially as its only around 100bhp, which is pretty tame if I am honest. I haven’t ever ridden a SMT with its 100bhp but the SMT is a big lightish supermoto… whereas this is Adventure tourer.

Need to book myself a test ride…

I have the 1190R as my tourer, and a SM-R 950 as my daily scoot and track day machine. They are so completely different I'm not really fussed they are both "LC8" motors. I believe the 1050 was more to appease the French and eastern license rubbish, and to take the fight to an area of the market KTM now doesn't serve, the 800-1000s (Tiger 800, GS800 etc). Also, my mate's in RSA would probably prefer smashing up 1050s to 1290s.

I would think that the 1050 is a competitor for the 800 series, GS800 XC800 etc.
I tried the rain mode on my 1190 which is 100bhp and it was fine. That was fully loaded with panniers and fishing kak.
