Hi all,

I've sold my fairly recently aquired 02 GSXR thou after very little use to a mate from work. Lovely bike but i just haven't got the time to go out on long rides on the weekend and i felt like i needed to head out somewhere with some space to even begin to use it properly.

I'm looking to replace it with something that is a complete toy. Fun just to start up, pop to the shops, blast round a lane or ten, or take to a meet.

I don't want to spend much more than i sold the GSXR for (2.5k) but can't find anything appealing for that budget. i like the idea of a KTM superduke (4k and up) or a ducati hypermotard (5k and up) but means doubling the budget.

This bike really isn't going to get much use as I already have a WR450F dirt bike for trail riding, a sportscar and a 2 yr old competing for weekend time! If it looks good even when just sat in the garage it's a bonus!

Wacky ideas welcome!

You failed to:
Mention why you sold Suzi (nightmare to repair; backward in a longer run riding position; too juicy)?
Why, as in in front of a priest, you sold her?
What tempts you (as in mentioned one's above- lesser weight; slower riding; more of an show off- down the street and back)?
Here it would be answer (galore as for choice), but you need to know yourself as what is your question...

If you just want a bike for short blats out, I'd go for an old stroker.

TDR250 or RGV250 if you want the sportsbike thing.

Whilst reading that I was thinking the perfect bike would be a KTM690SM. But considering you already have an enduro bike they would be fairly similar.

The two stroke idea is quite a good'n though. You could get a very nice RGV250 for that money, or an RD350, RS250 etc. Wouldn't cost much in maintenance either due to the low mileage.

How about a 955 Speed Triple? I got a mint one, for £2500, 13,000 miles, FSH, comfy around town and plenty of usable power.

I like 2 strokes but at 6' 3 and 17 stone i'm not thinking an RGV250 or similar is for me...

Pure mid sized (eg 600cc ish) supermoto i think is too similar to the dirt bike.

Speed triple is an idea, they are well regarded but i thought it was the newer ones that people loved?

I don't know, i could see myself going for some old cafe racer / flat tracker looking thing if i didn't know they'd be crap and uncomfortable to ride.

Old Ducati monster with big engine?

Or a newish Ducati Monster with big engine? (They all look pretty similar and you won't get the electrical issues the old ones had)

The S4R is supposed to be very good and with a fair bit grunt, 130hp to it aswell IIRC. Last time I looked they were at about £3500-4000 though.

How about a generation 1 RSV Tuono Fighter? Say 2002-2005 vintage?

The KTM is black and lives a few miles from Guildford. I'm only flogging it because I've had a back op and need to be a bit careful for a few months. I'll try and take a few pics over the weekend.

Cheers

John

Yamaha Vmax, You should be able to get a sound bike for the money, make sure its a full power one!

Great fun, sounds awsome, very comfy, bomb proof and power all that power.

A bonus is if you get a good one it will never loose you a penny if you need to resale it.
