Since it was tipping down this morning it made me think about a rain suit. I normally wear textiles in the wet and winter, but was wondering what you all recommend for an ultra thin lightweight rainsuit I can throw over the top when its torrential. Something that folds up really small would be great.

No armour or protection required.

Hi, this month's RiDE magazine has about eight pages of reviews of different rain suits. I can't say it was a thrilling read (!) but you may find it very helpful.

I originally wanted a one-piece rain suit, however I soon realised how difficult they can be to put on (and that was sitting on a chair in the shop). I therefore bought a two-piece and that's much easier to put on quickly at the side of the road (and is just as waterproof).

I got a Frank Thomas thing from ebay for £5 for last years TT. Excluding the 80's BN style flashes of colour it worked well. Doesn't fold up too small though, but I can't imagine any full suits will.

I use a cagool and waterproof trousers i bought for walking/camping years ago. They're big enough to comfortably go over my bike gear and cost sod all to buy. Wear the hood under my helmet and i'm water tight. Why pay more for "biker" specific gear. Go to a camping outdoors shop. I did the same for my thermals too.

I run a 2 piece combo, HG rain Top and a set of Rev'It waterproof over trousers (fold up small and don't flap in rain as well as being waterproof). carry these with me when in the leathers.

I know not cheapest, but as one of the beardy all year round types I likes things that work, these do.

Handy tip of the day.

A carrier bag over your boot makes it much easier to get the waterproof trousers on when you need to get into them quickly mid ride.

No more snagging the boot on the inside of the trews.

I've got a set of Alpinstars. They came out top of a Ride test, they are very good and not too much of a struggle to get on on the road side.

Wow, thanks for the offer, I'm 6foot and no shrinking violet at 15 stone, bigish shoulders and far from skinny. I havnt got into anything medium since I was 15. But thanks smile

Im getting some new tyres this afternoon at demon tweeks so ill have a good mill around the clothing section, see what they have thats reasonable.

I will bring this topic back to life rather than start another.

I am soaked. This the second time this week my 'waterproof' RST textile jacket has turned me into a drowned rat. (Weise trousers excellent).

New job 60 mile round trip, and it's time to bag up and get a rain suit.

Any more suggestions? I don't suppose Aldi will be selling waterproof gear anytime soon as we head into our summer which will no doubt be hotter than Ibiza for one day out of 60.

Yeah RST means rain straight through.
Commuted for 18 months all weathers. Changed to Weise gear and had no issues.

Just "splash" out on the jacket

My occasional commute is 2h minimum on the motorway so whenever it's wet I use a 2 piece Black oversuit that fits over my textiles and does the job perfectly.
It's also excellent at fending off wind chill on the coldest of days too.

Its amazing how skimping money on commuting bike kit is such a poor idea. In my early biking years I made this mistake like buying dodgy boots and gloves.
I used to use a HG full rain suit over the top of two piece leathers when needed from 97 when I first started biking into the early 2000s- Frankly its a pain in the backside suiting up.
So I then saw the light and moved to HG goretex textiles, I've not had a problem with any not being waterproof for a long long time. Ultimately stuff wears out and starts to let in water and then you have to reinvest in new kit. Since HG lost their Gore tex license and are basically sunk I'll be looking at other brands for the next time.

As others have stated just buy decent textile kit job done. A rain suit is perfect for those wearing leathers on weekend ride outs or other fun stuff where you happen to get caught out. Yes there are those that prefer riding in leathers for commuting but its just not practical. Each to their own ultimately.

I have the Richa one piece. Keeps me bone dry, folds into its attached bag and canbe worn as a Bum bag. Also is quite thick so adds an extra warmth layer. I would recommend
