I need to give me helmet a good polish (as it were!) as its a right mess from bugs and crap.

What do people recommend to use? Am I right thinking there are some household stuff I should avoid?!

after a quick search on Arai's site, found this:

"Arai only recommend the use of a mild soap solution, warm water and a soft cloth. A non-petroleum based wax polish can then be applied to the helmets outer shell"

I don't think KY is petrolium based because they say it's safe to use.....er......I'll stop there...

At most use some soapy water and a cloth, but some wet kitchen towel draped over it for a few mins should be enough to soften up the bugs before wiping off.

I make a habit of wiping my lid with a wet cloth then drying it as soon as I come in from a ride - saves a lot of hassle and if I want to go for a ride, I know that all my kits prepped before I go.

As above, leave some damp kitchen towel on it then wipe the bugs off with ease!!!!!!!!

I find wet wipes followed by soft loo roll works just fine.

There's a sponge type thing that has a fabric mesh/netting over it, I think available from Hein Gericke - works a treat for getting insects off, even stubborn ones.

Damp cloth laid over it is good, as said, for getting the stubborn dehydrated bugs off the helmet. A good wash inside and out with baby shampoo once or twice a year keeps the lining nice and fresh (and seems to plump up compressed inners nicely).

Then I may, possibly, under duress, admit to a couple of coats of Zymol over the top of a good HDCleanse. Dammit, its in the cupboard anyway paperbag

I use a very mild soap and water solution and a microfibre cloth to clean my lid. For the final touch, Purple Helmet Polish is brilliant. Fantastic on the bikes plastics too!

Most Motorcycle stores stock it too I believe.

Haven't "polished my helmet" since I was a teenager ! wink

However, for cleaning, I tried those daft named Cif Oxy wipes & they worked fine. Dry off/polish with paper towel.

"Polishing your helmet gives you Cif"--you know it makes sense.
