I've just been bought a motorbike!
Discussion
Had a phone call earlier from my Dad, he has decided as he is now in his late 50's that he needed something fun.
So he has bought from ebay without viewing them not one but 2 Honda C90 motorbikes. Apparently the 2 are so he can tell mum I have bought them for the 2 of us when in reality he just bid on more than one and won both
Now all I have to do is arrange to borrow a trailer from work to pick them up for him, and spend a day driving round the country.
I am quite excited at being given a crap motorbike to mess about on though my face in an open face helmet will look like I am trapped in a lift (Think Jimmy Carr's top gear SIARPC appearance). I am also a bit worried about him as he had a triple bypass in Jan, has occasional problems with arthritis in his arms and legs and does not have the reaction times of a younger person.
Still what a laugh it should be learning to ride a 2 wheeled thingy on wet greasy roads over the winter.

The 'C' series Honda's are what I started riding in the 70's
The C50(49cc) and C70(72cc) have interchangeable parts but the C90 is a different engine altogether. They are totally indestructable - I used to run my C70 on petrol and NEAT OXYGEN which we found in a cylinder in the old Southall Gasworks. You need to be careful of the front brake because it lifts the forks UP when you brake(????) or it did then, hope its changed, which means you will be taking valuable braking traction away from the front wheel. Those plastic fantastic panels will actually keep you fairly dry and protect you from the elements. I think you can get 25mph in second if you thrash it and the long 3rd is good enough for about 50ish in the right conditions. Your version will have a set of distributor points in the head instead of inside the generator and they are easy to set. The enclosed chain cover will vibrate like crazy and chances are the chain has never been adjusted properly.
Oh, to pull a wheely, just push the gear selector back down, and hold it there, rev the nuts out of it and then let your foot up again (no clutch as its twist and go) and it will drop it into gear and off you go!
With some basic practice you can ride along with the front wheel in the air, standing on the rear pegs (fixed) and pull perfect wheelies.. albeit at 10mph

I wish I had one now they are great fun because they are so crap and the engine sounds like a screaming lawnmower when you cain it (all the time) but it keeps taking the abuse and absolutely will not die

Hmmm...rather you than me mate! I won't be biking until February now. Too bloody cold and dangerous this time of year.
EFA
Too bloody right!!!
The lairiest things about these is the way they rise up at the front when you pull the front brake on. An effect of the leading link front suspension, it's totally counter intuitive and worsens the already woeful suspension geometry.
Remember this - it will serve as a plausible excuse when you wipe out on the way to offloading a consignment of pepperonis and Hawaiians.
