Engine porn that is... Not two wheels but for 2 stroke lovers..250E national kart in a tuners workshop we have just been to.. 90hp and about 200kg inc driver. The later ones make more power than that...

Mine will be a single cylinder, around 60-65hp. Nowhere near the budget for this kind of thing... £13k For a new motor! Billet crank cases, 250cc rotary valve twin. Lovely.

Me and the old man just got rid of our old GX200 - nothing as exciting as that but we paid £300 for it 3 years ago - ragged it round the track once a month for £30 a day and then sold it for £300

Karts are fantastic, too many injuries though.

That must be the equivalent of a tuned TZ engine. Whats the 0-60 of something of that calibre?

Very nice - are they bespoke engines or do they start in something else? It looks like half of a square 4. Assume by the looks of it there is still only one crankshaft?

Karting's come a long long way since the days of weekend amateur racing. Mind you I sort of knew that. A neighbour of mine set his son up in karting. He was soon racing against the likes of Alex Brundle (son of ex-F1 Martin) & the Mansell boys. Apparently when Nigel Mansell started them out he bought 10 karts, had his "mechanic" check them all over & kept the best 2/3. I believe both parents had race transporters & full time mechanics to fettle the machines.

Completely bespoke but I think the configuration is loosely based on rotax 256.

Around 2.5 seconds. Mine will be about 3 I'd suspect.

My lad's god father races for RedSpeed Racing (Lee Harpham), he's currently 2nd in the european series on a twin. These things go like stink but keeping them reliable is key.

A good crowd do the national you'll have a blast trying to keep up.

We went to see viper racing as he's on our doorstep, but we aren't using him as such. The engine will be tuned by my dad but we will go to viper for expansion pipes, pvl ignition and other tuning parts. my dad tuned and rebuilt all my engines from cadets, tkm, junior gearbox and ICC125 gearbox.

I'm not expecting to light the track on fire but I did race karts for 10 years so I'm not worried abou keeping up. Raced 125 ICC last and on a lot of circuits I could beat a 250 national. No chance long circuit though.

Will be racing at darley moor, not the full blown long circuit championship. Not until I can afford it anyway!

Ah right ok you'll get good help when you need it from Viper another of our friends James races for them might even be his Kart in the pictures.

Not been to a short circuit for year since we were kids, need to get my boy into one soon.

What/where did you race Yazza? I raced 9-18 in J TKM, Intermediate (British Open Champion), J Max, 100 National. Raced in Champs of the Future, Super One, Kart Masters, "0" plate races, etc - you're of similar age so maybe we raced each other at some point?!

3 sisters, GYG and then did junior gearbox NKF rounds, used to race against Henry surtees, then mainly raced at 3 sisters again and NKF rounds in ICC. Basically fast tracked to gearbox as soon as possible to get in classes where my size mattered less. Cadets were a nightmare racing against Kids that were about a foot shorter than I was!!
