190/50 to 190/55 rear Tyre?
Discussion
Anyone done it ... ?
It is a popular mod with older R1 owners due to the new R1's running 190/55 ... on Saturday I swapped to 190/55 and am absolutely amazed with the difference.
The bike turns in effortless and seems to have more grip when cranked over on it's side ... should have done this ages ago!
Obviously I was a bit concerned about increase in rear ride height / gearing but it has not had any negative effect on the bike ... did 200 miles on Saturday on twisty roads and the bike has never felt so planted!
I cannot see me going back to a 190/50 now ... anyone see any issues with this?

I've run all sorts on my old R1 and they all alter steering feel. I'm currently on a 180/55 (mainly because it was free) which also speeds the steering up a bit.
You've probably gone from a worn out 190/50 to a new 190/55 so the difference is possibly more marked.
I've not tried a 200 section that comes on the Aprilia RSV4 yet. That's still on a 6" wheel so it would fit and work but I've an idea it might be a pig at full lean with older bikes with older geometry.

Yep, good mod to go to a 55.
BUT beware it increases your gearing, surprisingly its equaled out by changing to a +2 rear sprocket. Which means its quite noticeable! (well, this is what i found on a 2011 blade)
I ran a 60 on my k5 race bike and that was mental!
I don't think it's actually made a great deal of difference to the gearing on the R1 as I cannot tell any difference! ... and IIRC wouldn't it improve acceleration slightly due to the change? - a bonus? Same size physical gearing turning a larger OD wheel/tire = more top speed with less Acceleration.

Smaller wheel increases acceleration

It put my NC30 speedo quite a way out with a 17 inch wheel from the RVF.

We agree the difference will be neligable though?
Yeah, it's not going to be huge, although the latest issue of PB suggests that by adding a 190/55 tyre to a Hayabusa it took the maximum speed up from 186 to 192mph, as it caused the speedo to under-read and got around the speed limiter that way.y2blade said:

You asking or telling? According to this website http://www.club80-90syncro.co.uk/Syncro_website/Te... The difference is 3.1%.
