Speedos and odos.....

Here's one I hadn't heard off....

has anyone come accross a vehicle with an analog speedo that reads MPH but that on the same clock has an odo that reads KMs ?

What's the bike? There was a huge grey bike industry (bikes not officially imported to the UK) in the late 90s, and a parallel import (bikes officially imported to UK but cheaper in their domestic market) one in the 2000s. Although the one I bought parallel (new in '03) had mph clocks fitted.

My 916 was a parallel import (at £2250 less than a UK bike, it would be stupid not to) and had a km speedo and wrong-side headlight dip. Both are easily changeable but a new mph dial fitted into a kmh speedo would be cheaper than a new speedo - which way is the dip headlight beam cutoff?.

Some of the early UK 916 models also came that way but that was when Ducati was strapped for cash and used what was on the shelf, plus supply was so limited that the UK importer would take anything they could get their hands on but by 2002 things were different.

It's also possible that Ducati (or their speedo supplier) assembled it with the wrong parts, but I doubt it.

There's no mention of the headlight dip being one way or another. Sounds like it's not something to ring alarm bells then !
