Ever get one of those days where you think, I wish I never bothered.

I decided to fit some crash protection to the track 675 that Mckean kindly included in the sale of the street I bought from him.

This should be easy I think.

R and G stuff so not cheap ebay ste.

The day gets off to a bad start when I find the battery that I had such a pain loosing the nut is now dead, so I have to push it around so I can work on it, i had to do this on soaking gravel that I nearly drop the bike on but I get there. No biggy.

So whip off the track fairings, loosen the first engine bolt, then go to do the second. "you may need to loose the radiator reservoir" says the fitting instructions. No problem a bolt and a hanger, easy. Right next engine bolt, oh wait, fk there is a nut at the back of this bolt that I cant get to. How the fk do I get a spanner in there. Oh crap I need to remove the radiator, as if I was to try to budge it in I could damage the fan blades. Right, that's not a two minute job. Move on. You would think they would tell you this though.

So I put the socket set down that ive been using on the bike battery area, forgetting that I have the battery in there, all of a sudden there is flashes and crackles from the 1.21 Gigawatts I've now sent through the bike, I fking shat it, I expected to see a Delorean race past me at 88 miles per hour and some get out going great scot.

The smell made me cough a bit bringing up years of crap from smoking, I went to spit a juicy green and yellow mouthful of mucusy st out, as I grog I loose the ability to spit as im a fking retard and it plummets onto my adidas trainers and all down my mouth. I try to wipe it off but forgot that I now have no kitchen roll after using it all when bleeding my brakes. So I start trying to rub it on the garage walls, before getting a old dust sheet which ended up smearing it all into my trainer making it worse.

So on to the fork crash protectors, a threaded tube goes through the spindle with two tiny 6mm nuts. A utter to try and tighten up as the cyclinder keeps spinning. It has sloted ends for a screwdriver to be wedged in so you can tighten it up but fk me its impossible, it would be a bd changing to wets and doing this. Then I realise this isn't sitting in correctly. So I try it on my street it slots in no problem.

Wtf it says it fits my Daytona as well.

lovely fit in the street

wtf is this man, I mean wtf.

Anyway right what can I do now, so I fit my track lock stop ive got, fit it all up, great. Oh fk I cant turn this bike now, certainly not get it in with 5 bikes in a over crowded garage, fk take it off.

After kicking over the tin full of bolts and screws for the Daytona sending them everywhere and searching high and low for them I thought fk this Im away to watch nation lampoon and eat ste.

I did however hang my photos I got.

Everyone fks up but to post about it on here makes you look like a ned looking for cheap laughs.

If you were on my friends list on FB you'd be "plonked".
That was the whole point you miserable . For a few cheap laughs and others to mention similar stories.

In the grand schemes of things it's not even worth caring about but seeing as bb is dead these days I thought I'd post in a humorous rant manner like has been done in the past.

Perhaps you would prefer more winter riding threads.

Rimming, I hope that doesn't mean what I hope it means
Yes, I'm pretty sure that's were the saying "you wouldn't kiss your mother with those lips" came from.

Being serious for a second...A look on the 675 website and GB stuff seems to be plagued with problems.

This certainly put me off fitting the engine casings to my road bike.

The chap just fitted them and left it like so, and this was the results...

I've had GB racing covers on all my track bikes. It's top quality stuff. I believe its used on plenty of Moto 2 bikes.
I have them on my track bike to, plus the stuff you gave me. Just a bit staggered by the photos above, a bit of a warning that if you fit them to a road bike, take them off and wash regularly.

I assume its just salt and dirt that has caused it.

I thought GB Racing stuff just fitted over the original stuff.
It is, certainly is on mines. However the guy fitted it to his road bike, left it then for whatever reason went to remove it and found damage like this to all his casings.

They certainly don't warn you of this when you buy them.

They do.

I fitted some to my blade and they were a great bit of kit.

In the photo of the 675 covers, what is the story, corrosion that went un noticed?
guy fitted them to his road bike,
left them on for years,
took them off,
found this damage.

I've got to say on every other bike I have seen their stuff has been top notch.

That picture of the 675 casing isn't a good advertisement for them though.
I posted about my front spindle fitment problems, it seems i'm not the only one.

interesting reading, I certainly wouldn't think to look underneath. Apparently lots of owners checking and seeing similar damage.

To be fair, would any of the other manufacturers products have faired any better?
Probably not, however a wee warning wouldn't have went a miss.

To be honest, I don't bother with casing protection on my road bike, if I drop it fk it the things insured.
