Hi all, I just bought myself a 1200 Harley, so I'm on the prowl for insurance cover. I got a fully comp quote from Bennets, for £99, but I've also done a search here in Biker Banter and tried www.gocompare.com They asked all the usual info, and not one of them is as cheap as Bennetts. Is there a good reason for this, such as Bennets being crap?

Motorcycle Direct seem reasonable, but they don't offer breakdown insurance.

I'm 48, haven't ridden a bike for 6 years now, and not for nearly 20 years in England, and I really want decent fully comp cover with breakdown recovery before I venture out on the roads. Any recommendations?

I've got my policy right here as it happens, included is the following for fully comp:

  • legal liabilty for death / injury to passengers and third parties
  • legal liabilty for damage to 3rd parties property upto 20m quid
  • loss or damage by fire, theft or attempted theft
  • foreign travel cover (90 days on my policy but that wasn't FC so best check)
  • european and UK breakdown cover and accident assistance
  • upto 50 grand in legal protection
  • optional trackday cover
I'll give 'em a call and see what they say. Cheers.

bloody hell thats cheap. Im nearly 39, 30 years of riding bikes, although not had one for 5 years when my Ducati 996 sps miraculously transformed into a house deposit, wooden floors and curtains but having just bought a 2008 blade am paying £1050FC with 3 points (Kwik Fit online wanted £9150 - work that one out!!).

Only bad thing I have heard about Bennetts is that when I bought the blade the dealer asked who I was insured with as Bennetts can take an age to get a cover not through when taxing the bike. Saying that I have waited nearly 2 weeks and still not got my copy even though the dealer got a faxed one within minutes of paying.
£1050 yikes I'm 48, haven't ridden in six years, bike valued at £3.5k and my first quote was £99 FC. Some others have been as high as £150.

I guess a hi po 'blade might be more of a risk that a 'Hardly Dangerous' 1200 hehe
