Anyone done it?
Thinking of replacing the stock callipers for electric handbrake and hydraulic brake

I have been looking at Hydraulic handbrake for the wedge.but dont know where you stand with MOT

Yes, but I got nowhere. The aftermarket systems were too bulky to fit. If you have any success I'd be very grateful if you'd post it here

MOT is no issue as long as the system operates correctly. The awkward bit is getting it to fit

Probably a difficult fit as most modern stuff will be linked to the car ecu.

A chap on the French TVR Forum is working on a Grantura with a lot of crazy modifications (like a LS1 engine) and he choose an electrical hand brake from a Mercedes W205. It fits in the rim... if he removes the lead weights smile

The beauty of these cars is simplicity why fit equipment that makes modern cars so unreliable confused I will just add this IME when they fail its usually on so your stuffed kerb or road side with nothing you can do that will release said caliper internal mechanism/servo unless its part cable (remote servo/motor assy) they generally choose moment of failure badly too headache I hate the bloody things recently at to change the whole assy on a BMW E70 X5 due to failure st loads of cash and is on the CAN network so had to be coded to the vehicle, not the 1st one I've done on said model either inc VAG and Renault Ford etc , I'm not a fan as you can imagine 5/10 years before problems arrive usually , electronic handbrakes auto hold etc I st EM banghead I have a perfectly working limb to operate a handbrake lever if I wanted toys to play with id go play Call Of Duty etc on the PC , sorry Peter probably not what you wanted to hear but I am tainted with this kind of equipment ste nowadays fitted to the modern motor vehicles its OK until years later

The guy I mentioned was unable to put a mechanic handbrake due to all the other modifications he has done. The place was missing.
But, else, I totally agree with you Zener, this is a another source of failure.
In case of fire, how are behaving all those nice features like electric handbrakes, push buttons gearboxes...
Recently in France, a Renault Scenic went on fire with the turbo sucking oil and boosting the engine, if you cannot stall your engine nor use the brakes, this is scary.

Thats called a run away Diesel and you could remove the battery and all the electonics and it wont stop frown its running on its own lubricant been an issue with tired or Diesels overfilled with oil since Diesels began frown just for accuracy , only way to stop is block the air intake or shove in gear with brakes on an dump the clutch

Of course, the issue is when you have an electrical hand brake, no clutch pedal, no gear lever and just electric switches.

The electronic handbrake on my Audi A8 (please excuse bad language) was a constant source of problems and MOT fails. I will never buy another car with one fitted

Electric handbrakes are right up there with square steering wheels.

Good luck with that, I think that it becomes the norm.
I also had an Audi A8 in the past, first of the name (96 model if I'm remembering correctly), it was very reliable (200,000 miles without any issues) however, the owner of a standard new Dacia would have laugh at the equipment, no reverse radar, no gps, no massage seats, no ESP, no camera, just electric settings for seats and steering column and a dual zone clim (top of the luxury).

The standard set-up works just fine if everything is A1 helped no doubt by NOS Ford calipers about 10 years ago which is why I also use genuine OE/Ford pads (best friction Vs handbrake performance) and the cable adjusted correctly i.e the levers on calipers return to stops when handbrake disengaged, IME back in the day Sierra/Granada etc after-market pads didn't cut the mustard Mintex APEC Unipart etc etc , its why I have the opinion above , and I dont need to hang off my handbrake for it to function inc steep hills

So would you recommend Ford pads for rears on track day duty?
Interested, because my DS2500s need replacing and I am not thrilled by them.
Standard later disk size.

Spec of the later rear vented brakes and the weight your hauling up I think your well buffered even at track day pace , rear braking amounts to 20/30% approx Anthony frown

Just out of interest, does the handbrake have to be on the rear wheels for MOT purposes.

I can only conclude the missus wants to drive it rofl

I only use the handbrake in emergencies or on a big old hill. Leaving it in gear is my remit mostly.
