I think that after putting up with all the monkeys on here - especially that Alun - it is no wonder you have had a relapse. Or is it that the nurses look just a little bit better than your new man friends? laugh

For the last couple of months I have been having radiotherapy and saw countless patients like yourself. You all seem very upbeat despite the circumstances and an inspiration to others. It is too easy to look inwards when the big C comes calling.

Now just get your a'se out of there and get this bl##dy car back on the road where it belongs with you at the wheel. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. thumbup
This has been a real frightener, people are now reminding me of conversations on mon tues along the lines of no resus and just chatting with my nurse this eve her comments were nasty nasty bug and you were lucky.....perhaps I better do the lottery, looks like I'm going to be in for at least another 10 days while they pump more drugs into me.

Rich 838 if you honestly think I would let anyone bar myself take beastie for its maiden run and mot then you must have been on the same drugs as me!!! I'm hopefull I will be up and fighting in the next 2weeks and it will fly thro

I hear you I hear you Rich, I'm in rather good spirits myself today,, went to Bedford Autodrome to see Richard 858 run his super fast super charged 450,, it's a joy to behold and goes like st off a stick,, well about 5 laps in he gets banned for noise level,, so we swap cars, I pay a couple of quid and bobs your uncle my little blue one gets a ragging instead, Richarv decided mine was to fast for him so opted for a passenger ride instead, he didn't like it for some reason,, my tongue is firmly in cheek, so we had lunch and Then I went out as Richard went Home,,
Put loads of laps in, Toyo T1R's screaming for relief, had some good fun with some Lotus and the like,
My cars going pretty well, still to slow off the turns but pulls really well.

I have to thank Richard 858 for being so generous and saving me £75 for not having to pay for the afternoon session,
I owe you a day on the spanners Richard,, oh and your tyre valve covers are in the door card pocket drivers side Richard.

Rich,, I'll be around Monday morning unless you say otherwise mate. thumbup

Great to see you again today Alun & thanks for lunch and the passenger laps, we both agreed that neither of us make very good co-pilots !!
Pretty pissed off with the track noise ban but rules are rules I suppose, just getting to grips with the freshly set up chassis after damper refurb, finding the level of grip etc. and beginning to squeeze the power down gently and I jump right over the noise limit without even realising it and get an immediate, no appeal ban (the rule was fully explained at the drivers briefing) even though somehow my noise level jumped so quickly I didn't get shown any noise boards warning me of an impending breach !! irked Need to rethink exhaust/silencer arrangement.

Great to hear you're back home Rich but for god's sake stick to your own advice & take it fking easy !! I'd be round again myself to lend a hand but snowed under next week I'm afraid.

The noise level,, mine today
Static test when I arrived,, 98.5 decibels,,, that's loud I thought, last time at Bedford I was 94.... But I've took pre cats out and Mbe system since but still,,, full cat and standard exhaust!
Then I go back and do it again for my track pass,, 94 decibels,, WTF different guy so could have put his monitoring stick further up but that's not right,,,
I decided to leave the cans off and I didn't get pulled for noise on track,,

It's something to do with the wind when on track, Richard came past the pits gassing it, it didn't seem that loud, other cars were louder in my opinion,, but some bloke did say,,, fk me that red Tvr's the fastest thing along the pit straight,, hahah,,he was right, Richards car is serious, seriously well built, so fast,, and smooth as a jet fighter,,

What a bummer today was really, I was quite happy to pay for the afternoon session and join Richard, well watch him disappear up the track but hey, it was nice and dry by about 3 pm Richard, I went from very uncomfortable to chucking it around and laughing at the high speed over steer in corners, pushed harder and harder into the corners and spent most the time crossed up,, chose your corners carefully at Bedford and you can really push your luck,, great track, Rockingham soon Richard, I'll come along mate. thumbup

Well he's got a nice set that don't seem to quieten the car enough Anthony,,
These exhaust pipes are getting old now,, maybe some baffle better than others, it could be something to do with nearly 500 hp or whatever it actually is,, it's like the workings of the shuttle under the bonet, and goes like it too, really really fast,,

I think Richard will look at the silencing of his pipe first then decide if he needs inserts before deciding what to do with the cans Anthony.
When's your first forey out this year mate smile

Hi Anthony, I have a pair of ACT track cans that I bought s/hand which had apparently only been used once before (from their condition I don't doubt it). Without them I was 106 dbA static, with them fitted 99.5 so they do appear to work reasonably well. I registered 90 dbA drive by as I started to give it a bit more so I think that combined with perhaps a gust of wind in the wrong direction at the wrong time jumped me over the limit. From my experience with quarry blasting in the past I also know that cloud cover plays a significant role in affecting air over pressure (sound wave) readings which is what is actually being measured, clear open skies do not "trap" the wave generated and therefore allow the noise to dissipate upward, needless to say it was pretty cloudy at Bedford yesterday !
I believe my exhaust to be around 10 years old, still standard so my options are really a new standard exhaust (with maybe some extra wadding) and keep the track cans for use when required or a better pair of track cans. As the existing exhaust is fairly well battered I think I will opt for the former, test the cans again and see what happens, need to pull my finger out as need to be ready in 4 weeks !

Don't know if this helps, but I kept struggling with the noise tests at track days, and Mat Smith said to me that he thought that something in the exhaust might have failed or come loose.
It so happened that I had a spare exhaust, bought when i saw it on Classifieds and thought it might come in useful one day. Swapped them over, lost about 5 decibels, passed Castle Combe at 100 db.
I must say that at Bedford I always used to use the sighting laps to spot the drive by test points so that later on I was always in a higher gear going past them and not at max revs.

Hullavington, on its last Friday ever in just under three weeks time, is my first of the season. A few of the TVR crowd will be there, including powerful Pierre. It's only an airfield, but it has been sold off by the MoD for housing, so it seemed a shame not to join in with its last hurrah.

Its [url]HERE|http://orders.motorsport-events.com/EventDetails.aspx?EventID=833cd4b8-e6d6-4c47-8407-cda8496b4ac5[\url] if anyone wants to join us for £109. But beware, noise limit is 100 dB.

Grahams spare is allegedly "quiet" and I feel mine to be too noisy anyhow.

For the time involved in changing the system it must be worth a go…….

Must be. Even I managed my own, with occasional help with the bits where two pairs of hands helped. Even got the holes in bracket and block lined up first time. spin Having a lift helps - I borrowed the ramp at the garage down the road, and got regaled with stories of low 9s at Santa Pod. The old geezer used to be a regular, in his Vauxhall Victor.

Hi chaps, were on the car again this week, the thing is with these cars, you do something then think, it could be better so fettle again, it's not just a nut and bolt job, there's been plenty of fabrication and adaption as things go along, then test fit,,,bolt something up and happy then dis assemble to paint bespoke parts etc, then re assemble,, takes ages, it's interesting to see a Tvr being built and every detail looked at and usually a better solution applied, boot fit tomorrow smile

I've not had anything like as much time working on Rich's car as I'd have liked recently so let's hope I can just quietly get on this week and give Rich a boost re rightly deserves, he's done one heck of a job.

Richard needs his rest this week so if he's not posting its more than understandable.

I'm very excited to be back working on this car and I'm just putting the finishing touches together,,, door cards,,,man I keep avoiding it,, wish me luck. I'd like to say it's almost there but jobs always take longer than you expect so let me see where we are by Friday,,,,,,,,,,,,,smile

I know the "while I'm here syndrome" from doing the Rover. Nothing is ever as straightforward as it appears when you begin.

Good luck Alun. Regards to Rich.

Poor old alun has now probably picked up the stier bit of the stick with the final finishing,he has got to try and realise my wants without me participating as I'm not really able to get too involved with strict instructions to take complete rest or suffer the consequences!!
One of the beauties of these cars is they can be made individual, some would say and it has been seen that this can maybe go too far or not far enough and therefore become a bit mainstream. I always intended this build to be classy and timeless demonstrating the tvr specialisms but also incorporating up to date technology, I think this has been achieved and alun is now smoothing the icing on the cake,by the end of the week I reckon it should be there.
What I have noticed as well lately is the perceived increase in value, whilst I can't look to the future, one thing I didn't want to do was leave my wife a bag of bits to get rid of following my demise,it would have been a sad day to have such a good car end up broken,as it is now,it gave me the inspiration with help from the ph fraternity to get it completed, this has been such a major motivation for me to keep fighting. I do see now the chance of driving her and enjoying whatever time is left,it also gives my wife a top tiv that's got to be in the 15 to 20k bracket to deal with when she sees fit, added that any potential future owner would have a seriously sorted car.......But that's not just yet!
Keep doing those bits al it's going good

Cheers Al, I'll pass on your regards, he knows you've been in constant contact with me,, thanks man,,,
Even now we can't just throw it together, but it's had some good brains on this car, it really is about done but I don't like to tempt fate these days so I'll just take it one day at a time and finish off all the simple things and see what gives,,,,it's a monster with an epic sound track,, everything seems to be working, the electrics are first class, I messed about with the dash today fitting the air vents and actually getting air to come out of them, replaced drivers side foot vent, routed dash light wiring, velcrod toad alarm and fitted dash top, faffed about with fitting new wiper arms and piping,,, dropped one of the black spacers down on top the gearbox,,, five min job took me 40 hahah,, good job Rich was indoors resting,,, haha,
Anyway that and bonet stays and re painting the underside of the boot black,, I got plenty done today.

Onwards and upwards and another Tvr brought right upto date, this cars engine seems very powerful for a fairly standard 4.6,, with the New Ecu and virtually straight through pipes and mapped,, I Wonder what it will produce! , I'll be very interested in the torque figure,, this car was the exact same colour as mine, same year, within months of production and shared very close engine and chassis numbers,, both within about ten of eachother,, like brothers growing down the line,,, smile so the engines would have been the same spec,,
Isn't it somewhat ironic that I'm now helping the sister/brother car to mine to be born again,, some 16 years later,,, two guys brought together by our love of cars and now tragedy in our lives,, but the car is still the focus, yes we talk, but then we get back to business,,

It's very difficult really but once you get going, the love of each bit going on the car fills Rich and myself with joy, we both marvel at it, hahah, just stand and take it in,

Therapy. smile
