Nice car and I see what Alun meant by a well equipped garage - Nice!
It does make it a pleasure to work when I can in there. You got to be comfortable!!

Just a quick big thanks to rich858 for his help and support over the last couple of days, working with alun must have been trying to say the least but all part of life's rich tapestry!
Car is moving on and realistically almost ready to fire up,fluids all in and no leaks act exhaust fitted.....looks the dogs got to check the fuel as injectors changed and a little bit of work on the electrics and that should do
In view of safety ran the main electrics on a battery charger for initial tests just in case of problems but all was clear, however this did produce some strange noises! My thoughts were bad earths and since I have taken the plunge and connected to the main battery....all is settled and the car is happy
Today will be bond headlights in,try and finish engine electrics finish boot area with locks wiring and carpets
Apart from a bit of tidying the underside is complete which is a major tick off the lists
Once again thanks Richard and continued thanks to alun

Some of you will know about aluns tragic news but this is not the place for that only to add that we are here to help in anyway and I've also had some more shattering news which has curtailed things a bit this week.....however......you can't sit and cry for too long and I have managed to do the following
Circuits sorted out from the immobiliser to give me all the start, ignition etc functions for the new ecu
New boot lock assembly fitted
Headlights bonded in
Did a fuel pressure test and found some leaks on the rail so stripped and o rings replaced. Tested ok
Finished engine control wiring although missing otter switch signal at mo and found elec drawing wrong for oil sender!
Fitted dedicated earth for ecu
Going for wide band lamba control so clive f manifold removed to have boss welded in
Getting ready to start engine at the weekend so spun it up with no plugs....bugger...can't get oil pressure, new pump was fitted during strip down and not really sure what's up....possibly the relief valve? Going to fit a temp mechanical gauge to check if it's an electrical gremlin but getting prepared to drop the timing cover off... Bloody pain but don't want to take any chances
So that's about it at the mo...will keep you posted, and alun keep your pecker up!

Rich, I had that after a specialist engine builder built my 4.6 engine.
It had no oil pressure even when the engine started and was idling. After the car was returned and the builder couldn't find anything wrong with it, I stripped off the sump and found the oil pickup pipe was loose, not hanging off but bolts loose!

Have you had the pressure relief valve apart, if not and it was fine before I would've thought that it was unlikely to be the problem.

Serpentine engines prime immediately and do not give any problems on initial start-up. Even an old oil pump will prime giving slightly less oil pressure
I tried taking the relief valve apart when the front cover was off but the end cap was stuck fast so left alone however it was fine before
Got new gaskets and a replacement cap for the valve so will check with a mechanical gauge first before stripping it out, just a pain,it is a new pump and I built the bottom end so are pretty sure nothing is loose

If it helps, I had the wide band lambda sensor bung welded in to the main exhaust pipe just after the join to the Y-Piece. The lambda sensors have to be kept as close to vertical as possible to avoid damage, I think from moisture.

It's on a Clive y so there is a small section just below the 2pipes joining which is ideal for the socket....fingers crossed !!

Fitted a mechanical gauge this afternoon and no oil pressure so stripped the whole lot out, can't see anything wrong but the pump has not seen a drop of oil,it's still got the smear of grease from when I built it,managed to get the relief valve out and nothing wrong here either, will check the pick up pipe tomorrow but unless there is an air leak around the flange there can't be much else to go wrong
Spoke with powers and they confirmed the serp is normally fine but did suggest maybe more grease or Vaseline around the pump gears and confirmed the checks I've made with the relief valve,it was also suggested taking the oil switch out and getting some oil into the pump through here, the engine has only done 50k so the housings are fine, not scored etc, just very strange
The shells and cam etc were well lubed prior to fitting but I'm still nervous about firing it without static oil pressure especially as now seeing that the pump had no oil at all in it

I had a similar problem with the oil pump on the P5B which had a (pre serp) Chim block installed.

Couldn't get oil pressure so stripped and rebuilt the pump 3 times without finding anything wrong. Checked the pick up pipe but was fine. Rebuilt the 4th time and it primed just fine. No idea why.

Sorry to hear about your latest news Richard and of course Alun's tragic news.

Hope the pump plays ball.
Well believe it or not (and it's not really for this forum but I for a penny)I had a very positive meeting with my neuro boffin who in view of my preceding weeks difficulties had decided to leave me alone as all my brain problems were sitting stable only for the next day to have lovely wife diagnosed with the big c....you couldn't write a book ....

Well, happy bunny, stripped oil pump etc off but didn't find any problems Pete (toolbox200) very kindly came round and reassembled it all for me. Couple of pointers, spoke with powers ref this problem with no pressure yesterday and they hadn't come across it with a serp but did suggest bit of Vaseline in the pump gears and too leave the oil filter off until I had oil coming out of the filter housing
Well a combination of both helpful hints eventually gave full oil pressure on cranking so am a happy chappie tonight with no fears about the impending start up over the weekend
Thanks to Pete for his Stirling works tonight

Well Martin (griff owner) has got to play his magic on all the new electronics,I've done the hard bit for him sorting most of the alarm electrics and finding the relevant supplies, the only thing missing is the otter switch/fan controls and bearing in mind we are breaking a new cam in as well that's going to be a must. Hopefully llloyds have given me a reasonable base map but there are changes to be made before we start due to vectra injectors and lamba changes, fingers crossed!
