Looks like the pre-cats are going then.smash
Like the idea of this “V8 Enhancements Y piece”. (what is it and where do I get one from?.
Followed by an ecu with mutable maps.

How much roughly would I expect to pay for this little lot ? yikes

Also what ecu do people use and where do i get that from?/ or who best to fit it.

Am i also right in saying if i fit v8 enhancement y piece i will loose the main cat anyway?
sorry if that bit sounds odd . im a learner still.coffee

I fitted the gas flowed non-cat 'y' piece from Tim at ACT, the pre-cats had already fallen out and the silencing has been partly removed from the rear box, sounds much like a Nascar now and does pop and bang when feathering the throttle when slowing down, although not as much as 450Nicks. The performance has also improved alot, mainly due to the main cat being knackered!

So how easy is it to knock the precats out?

The pre-cats on mine had come out on there own, they were bouncing around ontop of the main cat, I removed the 'y' piece to knock them out and they fell out of the 'y' piece, I dont think they are hard to get out though!

Do the manifolds have to come off to remover the pre-cats or can you get them by pulling the Y piece out? cheers.

Ok, top two clamps undone, very little movement on the y-piece, clearly i'm going to have to undo the third clamp (at the bottom, near the sump).
Of course that one's rusted to hell so will probably not want to come off, but after much swearing and bruised knuckles it'll fall to pieces so i can't re-use it...

what did the ACT y piece cost mate , the one i was looking at on v8 enhancments was nearly £500 ( stainless) would be nice to do it cheaper as im looking for sound more than "bling" !

What a bloody nightmare.

Managed to snap the rusty U clamp, as expected, so i'll have to pick one up tomorrow.

But the precats are very much intact, and they're a total pain to try and hack apart!!! It's corrugated platinum basically, right? Tried a chisel, some extension bars from my socket set, a very long masonry drill, all sorts. It's coming apart but VERY SLOWLY.

I reckon it's going to take another hour or two to do finish this side tomorrow, and then i guess two or three hours to do the other side.

Still, i'm sure it'll be worth it biggrin

I had a straight through job done after hearing someone elses - really happy with the results.

Didn't get hardly any pops and bangs until TVR Power remapped the (standard) ECU after my rebuild - now it's great! IMHO it's well worth the money to put it on a rolling road and have this done - it provided yet another step up after the first provided by the Taraka rebuild...

Just to confirm, I still have all cats in place and the standard exhaust all the way through apart from the straight through back box.

That Daddy said:
daz the plumber said:
according to the steve heath bible there can be up to a 30 bhp loss in power with a so called cherry bomb or sleeved exhaust .is this true ?
Rubbish, power gains are probably next to zero though with sleeving etc laugh
No it isn't true because I never said it in the first place!

Just to make absolutely clear... the bible talks about my experiences with a complete sports exhaust system that had 4 tail pipes. That system dyno'd 265 bhp. It was replaced with a standard system and dyno'd again and made 300 bhp. Hence the comment.

Showcase, it cost me £288 delivered, speak to Tim at ACT he is really helpful, it also looks ggod as it is stainless steel, same as the v8 enhancements one! The 'y' piece would only come off by unbolting the entire system, including the ARB to slide the exhaust backwards, the 'y' wont twist out past the chassis on the front end otherwise.

I have been on the ACT web site, not phoned them just yet.
I like the look of the Y piece price on there better !.thumbup
Im a little confused still though with the main cat. Where is that little bundle of joy resided?.It showes in the bible that its at the bottem of the Y piece. does that mean if i fit a brand new de-catted Y piece i will loose both the pre-cats and the main cat at the same time?.
I notice in the Steve heath bible that he is not a fan of removing the main cat.nono saying "remove the pre-cats and leave the main cat in place. This seems to give most of the benefits with fewer problems". he said.
Im begining to wonder if ( i my case) de-catting is worth doing unless you remove all the cats at the same time .byebye. How do you then pass the emissions test at the MOT or will this not be effected if they dont know about it?.

Im guessing during the replacment of the y-piece i will not have to remove the manifolds too ?smash
