As many of PHer's will know I returned to work.....full-time after 14 months last week having spent some 2-7 days each week getting a implant into born deaf son, which was switched on recently and should give him hearing within the speech range (many thanks to all the people who have helped us get there, all the good wishes went along way and Zane is one of the youngest ever implanted in the UK)...that said I was dragged back home after ONE HOUR with the builder at home having bent the garage door with a skip and burst the centre concrete post spraying stone bits all over the new paintwork on my 3000S. Hey-Ho ...It's a race to finish line with the Chimp in my workshop and Steve's, I have visions of the engine going back in tomorrow and running late in the week. Derek call me on 07956956042 during work hours and get the Paul's bushes out to me.

Adrian,

Looks like you had your priorities right family first no question.

No race mate as I want a 2 week window to do the inside and prep it for the engine/gearbox implant.
Found it a b*strstweard job just refitting the carpet over the transmision tunnel! Ended up taking a hacksaw to the "raised sections" under the dash lowering their profile to allow the carpet to go back underneath. I actually found that the passenger side had the original carpet still in situ!
Anyway fitted now with centre console in place, got the handbrake back on from underneath...but got covered in waxoil!
Roll cage and seatbelts next..then need some wider bore braided fuel line for the small run from the fuel tank to the pump? any ideas?

Gonna fit new sound deadening/new seat belts..

Bleed brakes with Wixers help later this week, looking at brake fluid went to the Ducati dealer in Coventry today thinking of using AP600 Racing brake 5.1 fluid any thoughts?

This reply has turned into a job list!

Thanks for your help on Saturday sorry if this caused you hassle.

Steve.

Ben,

Thanks for your positive comments, I left it a while in January as I thought it was not very interesting for folk to read, plus such a long topic probably puts folk off too.

Still got the Castle Race engine build and implant to go yet and set of the car up..

Mr Floyd

Thanks I guees my chim is photogenic then!

I was a bit concerned about posting pictures of the body on here before it was back indoors so to speak...the insurance company wouldn't touch it when it was sat outside on the drive with no chassis underneath!

Tha chassis was blasted then re-fabricated, then blasted again, then hot zinc sprayed, then primered (grey), then 3 coats of POR15 (more in areas like the outriggers as when I had POR'd something and had some left in the pot/brush it would go on the chassis), then 2 coats of brush on hammerite (as POR reacts with daylight and discolours sometimes). In the engine bay area I flatted back the brushed on hammerite and used he aerosol stuff...
Then a day before the lid went back on I scraped waxoil into the body sill sections this was really nice as I did it on Thursday when it was peeing down....
The chassis has waxoil over all the areas you do not see with the body on, I studied photo's that were taken after the body came off and come to the conclusion that rust formed where the water lay i.e. joints in the tubing so these areas arec pasted with the stuff plus on top of the outriggers. I cleaned areas wheree the body sits with white spirit to get the excess waxoil off to allow the sealant (supplied via Mr Venn who has done this sort of thing before, this stuff was not inexpensive but I wanted it to last, same thought process as Mr Venn)

The outriggers had been done a couple of years before (when I did the brake upgrade) these were new on the front the rears were blasted. Then POR15'd and Hammerited. However I have changed the shade of blue to the same colour as Tony M used on his Ford Pop, this is an engine lacquer (carplan blue). So despite my initial plan to leave each suspension corner alone and just do the chassis I decided to strip it all down again and refurb. The surface was de greased and key'd for the new paint.

Hope this makes sense, probably too much info

Steve.

This car is now better than when it left the factory.Parts that will NEVER see the light of day have been polished and protected to within an inch of their lives! The chassis will never ever show any sign of corrosion even if it does go out in the rain by mistake. We joke about him,and he does make a very easy target, but the fact is that I have never seen anyone put so much effort into getting a job right and refusing to bodge anything. Respect.

But.............. its still a fecking kit car Steve!!

Help or a bit of advice required!

Just been doing some work on the car, now looking at putting the fuel tank in ...replacing the fuel lines bla bal bla.

I came to replace the hose on the venting roll over switch, which on my car is rivetted to the boot to rear shelf part of the car, as usual the rivet snaps as I take off the old breather pipe so I drill out the one that hasn't broke and the other for good measure and take off the unit.

This thing is well manky, is cylinder shaped and about 2.5 inches tall, has an inlet and an outlet. I thought let's test it cos I know that the wires to the carbon can had been cut and a hole had been drilled in the fuel filler cap, suggesting a problem with venting prior to my ownership.

So I thought that if this thing is working I should be able to blow through it in the upright position and then turn it upside down and then not be able to blow through it right? I think that's the principle anyway.

Well pardon the expression but after blowing and sucking on both ends no flow of air.....so is this thing just full of stuff or just siezed up?

Anyone know where to get them from and or what they are off?

Hope this makes sense as always thanks in advance!

Steve.

Hi Jon,

WTF are you mate? Needed your help the other day fitting the mundano with a ....you favourite item a TOW BAR , caravan next then would look nice in the corner?

So Wednesday put the tow bar on borrowed a Large(ish) trailer off a mate then towed the Chimaera to CRE headquarters.

Engine and box in as 1 item this p.m. looks good took some snaps, tell Ben to pop round.

Finish off on Sunday....I will be holding my breath until she fires up and moves off, just in case there are any issues, after all there is not much that hasn't been left alone, obviously I have tried to cover all the bases but you can't second guess everything, so I will have the fire extinguiser on hand...just in case.

At least the car is insured now, as it wasn't covered at all whilst the body sat outside under a cover!!

Hence no pictures or mention of it's whereabouts on here, with all due respect.

Steve.

Jamie,

True to your word, nice one engine and box in today cheers, I know that you wanted to say how proud you were of fitting such a clean unit in such a clean and pretty chassis, you looked choked mate, I can understand that, all I would say is it is not a good thing to hide those emotions!

But all you could say was "eh I keep getting covered in waxoil where are the pukka pies!" (other rust preventative treatments and pies are available)

Steve.
