Thinking of Buying My First TVR!
Discussion
Hi, I noticed stackmonkey is considering E34 M5/Chimaera, both cars I've owned (got the Chim currently). E34 M5 is an amazing car (I had the 3.8 ltr with all the electronic suspension, etc.) staggeringly fast, comfy, brilliant handling. Two bad things about it:
1. They use a LOT of fuel. Much much more than the chim.
2. If anything (anything) goes wrong, you will pay, big time. Electronic shocks need replacing? £2500ish. Anything to do with the engine? £1000ish every time.
What I love about the chim in comparison is the simplicity, there's not so much to break! Great handling, surprisingly practical, and everyone loves it too (only car nerds know what an M5 is, really!). Get one, I haven't regretted it once. If you're going to store it outside, make sure you get a cover, most of them will leak in heavy rain!

should i buy a TVR
OH YES i have a 450 chimaera with sports exhaust, who needs a stereo! i have just had it serviced by Offord motor company they were very helpfull reasonably priced & i had a courtesy car A SAAB? nice car but made me realise why i bought the TVR to hell with the motoring press they are biased you do not buy a TVR and expect a Porsche, it is different! at first i found some of the switches & controls strange now i am used to them they i can appreciate why they are built that way, TVRs are relatively simple and spares are reasonably priced i even have a tinker with mine, buy and enjoy you will not regret it.

Right, have started looking seriously now! Saw one on Sunday which was not great - lots of stone chips, cut in back window, fraying on roof and most importantly, no PAS!
Am off to check out another one on Sunday...any thoughts on this...

I will of course be asking Rob Ingleby to inspect it if I am happy with what I can see.
BTW - still keep switching between sh!tting myself about what I might be letting myself in for cost-wise, and pure excitement at what lies ahead! I guess that's what it's all about.....

Agreed a deal on a Chimaera 500!
More details once I've paid and picked it up next week.
You will not regret it.......I am now in my 4/5th week of Chim 4.0 ownership.
I swapped to the Chim after six years in 911's.
911carrera/964 is a great car but it does not have the pure presence, grunt or rarity value of a TVR. More comments from friends in five weeks than inthe past five years...Good Luck
