Well they pumped me up with intravenous antibiotics and I persuaded them to let me go. Looking back now it's been a real frightener, gone from hero to zero in 4 hours, that's almost TVR credentials!,

Home and totally bksed but alive.....funny thing is it really wasn't much to do with the big c,it's just happened at the same time, going to have to take it really easy now, alun get your butt round and fit the boot lid !!!!! I don't want anymore chats with the grim reaper.......unlike Monday

Poor old alun has now probably picked up the stier bit of the stick with the final finishing,he has got to try and realise my wants without me participating as I'm not really able to get too involved with strict instructions to take complete rest or suffer the consequences!!
One of the beauties of these cars is they can be made individual, some would say and it has been seen that this can maybe go too far or not far enough and therefore become a bit mainstream. I always intended this build to be classy and timeless demonstrating the tvr specialisms but also incorporating up to date technology, I think this has been achieved and alun is now smoothing the icing on the cake,by the end of the week I reckon it should be there.
What I have noticed as well lately is the perceived increase in value, whilst I can't look to the future, one thing I didn't want to do was leave my wife a bag of bits to get rid of following my demise,it would have been a sad day to have such a good car end up broken,as it is now,it gave me the inspiration with help from the ph fraternity to get it completed, this has been such a major motivation for me to keep fighting. I do see now the chance of driving her and enjoying whatever time is left,it also gives my wife a top tiv that's got to be in the 15 to 20k bracket to deal with when she sees fit, added that any potential future owner would have a seriously sorted car.......But that's not just yet!
Keep doing those bits al it's going good

Well, another landmark day, alun took it for its mot, passed with no issues,it then went for a geo setup, all sorted, together with probably 40 miles of shake down driving and it's pretty good. Surprisingly no real issues with her,few rattles etc and this intermediate misfire at low to mid revs, heavier throttle take you thro it and she flies, sounds like a spitfire running on aged whiskey, difficult to describe, quite subtle on reasonable throttle settings, something from hell when opened up,pops and bangs on override
It's coming to the end now,bit of fettling and a rr session and it's another chimera back on the road, need to get a few of them together over here,a convoy was mentioned but I was thinking maybe a sat am man cave morning,,
How's about a sat am bbq bacon butty, sausage sarnie morning, free use of my workshop and ramps etc, just need some reasonable weather, just a thought, get a date together if there is enough local interest

Well as alun says, that's pretty well it apart from some tidying odds and sods, the standing back and admiring plus the mapping, then there will be the secret polishing, the "I wish I had done that"syndrome etc etc,but are tvr's ever finished?? I would say no,they are always evolving.
Back at Xmas I was having a particular bad time with my illness and the car was just stagnating,I didn't have the health and my motivation was at rock bottom,I knew what it needed it just didn't have the people to achieve the goal

So,you make the decision, and boy was it the right one,I gradually improved, the car started moving forward, people were there embracing what I wanted to do and more amazingly understanding how I wanted it to look

10weeks on and it's gone from a painted bare shell to a completed stunning looking car, bang up to date with very few initial teething problems, that in itself is testimony to the various skill sets that have worked with me and for themselves getting this project together

Alun,Pete hiddlestone,Martin Walton Richard 838 ,Jim my neighbour,my wife sheila, all people that have given time and support to achieve this plus the numerous written comments of encouragement and support to this project
It puts me into a position that I will be able to get out in it and enjoy, days a belting about are over, the mere fact that a 16 year old car still turns heads is enough!!
Life can throw some very stty sticks about, some creep up on you, others are like a bloody great caber dropping on your head, alun has had that with his desperately sad family situation, mine dropped an unexpected bomb last weekend with an infection that took me from hero to zero in 4hours and a prognosis that didn't expect me to be about the next day....but ,you never know what's round the corner
I'm going to try a put a get together as soon as the weather warms slightly, along the lines as previous post of sat am bbq workshop get together etc etc all welcome date tba
Once again thanks to all

Well as a testament to the quality of work carried out on this project, techy guru Martin came round to have a play with the misfire.
As in previous posts there has been a misfire in the lower rev range and because it's only running on a base map I was not sure if it was part of the electrical interference I am currently suffering or more fuelling.

A hard blast up the road and a tweek on the fuelling got rid of the misfire,Martin took no prisoners with her and declared an exceptional build and quality drive which was very pleasing and goes to show the skill of people that have worked on her,no vices,no issues,no problems,to come straight out of the workshop and behave like that spells well for the future.

We still however have the interference problem which is manifesting itself with spurious wild signals and unstable controls, more investigation to be made but it's bloody annoying as we have been particularly careful on all the wiring, will send some log files to canems and see what they have to offer....details to follow.....oh and by the way.....she is quick! and that's without the rr sessions

Yep,resistive plugs,on original 1st start didn't have these and electrically very noisy, changed straight away and big improvement
Yep resistive leads, tried some known substitutes yesterday,no difference
No, non restive plug extenders

Couple of other bits of general info for any possible thoughts,
Tips signal varying by 4 to5% on tick over. Tick over very stable but controls are verging on asking to start accelerated phase as the errors on the tips are close to the thresholds
Fan relays chattering as variance of temp signal coming back is too great ie signal jumping over too large threshold
Rpm signal quite wild but ok driving the tachometer, not too worried ref this as the variance is in 2digits against 100 s of rpm
System wired exactly as specified, all new main (enlarged) earths new engine loom (supplied)
Just as a little tester yesterday tps was disconnected and system was powered up with a scope on the tps line, showed some spikes coming from the 5second fuel pump purge cycle
There appears to be general noise across the board at the mo

Well as Alun says, pretty well sorted, the issues with the electrical interference was a real pain and while it would have been good to identify an individual fault I think it was down to a combination of things, bottom line is its all stable now and anything that could have caused the issue has been changed
Hopefully the knowledge base I have built up will be useful in the future for anyone else contiplating doing their own ecu upgrade, it certainly makes a major difference to the drivability of the car, even without the final mapping the car is so compliant, very smooth and tractable, happy to tickle along at 1500rpm in 5th, with the mapping finished it will be as good as any modern tin top
So some final titivations and its there, the nice thing is there are no underlying annoyances, still got the sump/silicone oil leak to sort and a few rattles (think some of those is Alun chuntering in the background)
Good to see the value of these cars getting sensible now, doing the mods that have been done on this car brings it up to current day standards but still retains the classic looks
Roll on some bright Spring mornings, lets get this Sat am BBQ and gathering organised!!
Once again, big thanks to all who have contributed in anyway with this project, I think its time to list a full spec so you can all see the improvements

A very happy Rich!!

Following on from the solving of the ecu interference problem it was felt we could improve the base map with some road tuning.
Lovely day for it today, but some silly bugger left the ignition on all day/night last week and it flatten the battery and buggered the Lamba, spare on order but managed to modify another to get us going, might have to think about some sort of timer circuit so it cant happen again

Anyway some road testing and logging enabled some improvements to be made and considering its not been on the rollers she drives lovely, 5th gear at 1200 rpm at she burbles along fine and just pulls away very happily, no shunting, nothing
She got some stick with the testing today and although she has done probably 50 miles since the build it did reveal a couple of minor issues, air lock in the cooling...sorted and a school boy error....one of the rad fans was wired in reverse!!!
She seems pretty quick and on hard acceleration chirps her back tires on a fast shift 1st to 2nd!
I had my 1st drive with her today and not driven a quick car for 18 months I took it pretty easy but, as others have said she does drive very nicely, smooth and tight with no vices, couple of rattles to sort but that's all for the future
So booked into the rollers at Lloyds in April for some final tuning and get those all important BHP figures!!

Burliegh is on the calender, it is before its mapping date but its running plenty good enough to go, as you say it will be dependant as to whether I'm running good enough!! and weather, but my intentions are to be there on the Sunday!!

Well for the finale chimmy went down to the canems boys at lloyds specialist development,as a starter, what a great bunch of lads,in the past I have always done things myself and never would have entrusted anyone else to do work for me.
There does come a time when you bow down to greater experience and this really shows with these guys knowledge and enthusiasm, really top guys and I couldn't recommend them anymore highly
Chimmy had been running pretty well on the base map supplied by lloyds but they did the fine tuning, results in the picture, approx 280bhp can't remember what they said to add for the torque figures but the screen shot is what's at the wheels
The power is lovely now really usable with great grunt,so that's about it really time to enjoy
